Who Is Aaron?

Well, if it isn’t the Upper East Side’s very own old reliable. There’s no one steadier than you, Aaron Vandervort. There’s no one more predictable. Sure, you might have shocked everyone when you finally snapped and blew the lid off the ‘Isobel Scandal’ but then what, Aaron? Back to the dull and dreary? I digress. You’d think someone would have tried to take up my mantle after my unfortunate absence. I suppose when you’re the sibling of someone like Alex Vandervort, being a dud is your only option. You’re smart, of course, and are never caught dead in anything less than a three piece, designer suit, knowing that appearance is all. Your family name and more importantly reputation is all. You’re happy to tow the line, check all the boxes, take part in every obligation that comes your way. After all, someone has to do it. A Little Extra

Aaron Vandervort is the perfect child and what choice has he had, really? With Alex taking up the role as the ‘wild child’, Aaron had to bear the weight of their parents’ expectations. His greatest fear is that he won’t live up to their dreams or his own potential. Aaron doesn’t have time to wonder what he might like to do for himself, okay? There is a plan and he is sticking to it. 

There aren’t enough hours in Aaron’s day but he always finds time to worry about his family. He plays peacemaker, he lives stuck in the middle and he tries to stay in everyone’s good books. Aaron doesn’t really take sides, he tries to remain diplomatic and reasonable. 

Living by the rule of ‘conceal, don’t feel’, Aaron rarely gives anything away. Has he been accused of being a big dull dud? Sure, but that’s to be expected. What you wouldn’t expect is that Aaron can actually be very petty. He can hold a grudge, he can plan revenge and execute it with a calm and steady hand. You shouldn’t cross Aaron Vandervort. 

Extremely hardworking, Aaron is always at the office and it leaves little room for anything else. That includes but isn’t limited to friendships, romantic relationships and any coffee order that would take more than 30 seconds to ask for. 

Aaron isn’t as serious as he seems. He might like to cut loose sometimes, he might even crack a joke if he’s feeling wild but he stays focused. Aaron might be the only one holding this family together, you know? At the end of the day, he might be stressed but at least he’s always well dressed.

Aaron had never done anything ‘Gossip Girl’ worthy a day in his life even when he was the high school sweetie of Isobel Prescott. And then he pulled off running said high school sweetie out of town and exposing her big #lie about being in love with Oliver Andrews. Connections

Alexandra Vandervort - the baby sister! Alex dedicated her entire life to being the disruptive wild child that took every opportunity to piss off their parents. It left Aaron to smooth things over and stand up for her. Things hit their breaking point when Alex told them she was pregnant (and refused to say by whom) and they all but kicked her out. Aaron is desperately trying to stay in everyone’s good graces and make sure they’re all okay.

Scarlett, Sapphire, Sophia and Layla Vandervort - the Vander cousins. Worrying about those four could very easily take up his entire day, every day.

Isobel Prescott - former Queen B Isobel was Aaron’s high school sweetie. They dated from Freshmen year and he was totally enamored by her. Head over heels. Until she cheated on him with- excuse the sound of grinding teeth- Huntzberger.

Who Is Sophia?

Sweet, baby Sophia. I bet you thought this was over, right? I know it’s not your fault but this was all in your name, wasn’t it? Jesse just couldn’t help himself. I don’t blame him for that either, you have always been a genuinely kind and sweet person. You were never meant for all this Upper East Side drama. Everything you’ve ever done has been for the good of other people. You’d do anything to make sure your loved ones were okay even if you weren’t. You swallowed your feelings for Jesse, you dried the tears of your older sisters and mother, you kept going forward with a smile. It’s exhausting but you never showed it. Still a little naive, still believing in the good in people, you’ve managed to not let this world change you. You feel your feelings and you aren’t ashamed of it. A Little Extra

Sophia Vandervort has always been the baby of the family. She’s the youngest, most sensitive and most optimistic of her two sisters. Always the one to look for the best in everyone, Sophia has had her heart broken more times than she cares to say but that doesn’t stop her. She’s always believed in big, beautiful, romantic love and that one day she’d live happily ever after. She’s always believed that there’s someone for everyone in whatever way they’d like best. Sophia is a gentle and kind soul. Even on the Upper East Side, Sophia has never had a bad word to say about anybody and she’s always willing to offer up a second chance. When it comes to her own feelings, they’re always too big to keep locked away for too long even if she tries. Sophia will always put everyone else before herself and try to look on the bright side for the benefit of others. All her life, she’s tried her best to keep everything and everyone together no matter how much it could exhaust her.

For Sophia, she truly felt the sting of betrayal from her father when he announced he was marrying his new girlfriend (’the mistress’ as Sapphire would put it). She couldn’t take one more horrific thing said by Gossip Girl when it was about her family. Sophia hates to feel powerless in the face of the things that cause her heartache. She tries to do the right thing, to take the high road but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t feel angry or hurt. It doesn’t mean she doesn’t have her limits. Being a light in a world full of darkness is who she is though. Sophia’s an angel, some might (and do) say. When she met a boy who was just as bright, just as hopeful and romantic as she was, everything changed. For once, Sophia wanted something for herself. She was patient, she was a good friend to him but she couldn’t deny the way her heart raced when he finally held her hand. Jesse Walker was her fairytale prince but better. Everything felt easier to face with him by her side and that still rings true now. And there has been a lot to face what with her sisters lives practically imploding and her father’s wedding still hanging over her head. She’s strong, she is but it can be a lot sometimes and someone like Gossip Girl has never, ever helped that.

Gossip Girl was absolutely abhorrent and Sophia was not upset to see them go! It was admittedly really romantic and dramatic when Jesse announced that he’d find a way to get rid of GG for Sophia’s sake. It was such a heroic, movie moment for him. Thankfully everything worked out in the end but Sophia was worried for Jesse the whole time. She should have known that their happiness and peace couldn’t have lasted forever.

Scarlett and Sapphire Vandervort - the sisters! Sophia is the glue that holds the three Vandervorts together. She’s always been the voice of reason between Scar and Saph when they’ve been at each other’s throats. She feels so disconnected from them both right now and hates it. She hates that Scarlett is barely around and that Sapphire left her. She misses them so much.

Aaron, Alexandra and Layla Vandervort - the many Vander-cousins. Sophia is friendly with them all but closest to Alex especially since her pregnancy became a not-so secret.

Jesse Walker - the boyfriend, the love of her life, her darling heart. Jesse was her high school sweetheart, she supposes and also one of her best and dearest friends. She could love him for forever. Only, it turns out forever wasn’t so long...  

Baby Beaumont - one of her closest friends since they started a study group back in Freshmen year. Baby is one of her quieter friends who’s always peaceful to be around.

Who Is Scarlett?

The big day must be getting close now and it looks like you’re set to have a new mommy. How exciting! At least you haven’t literally run away from your problems unlike baby sis but there are other destructive ways to cope. Last time I was around, you were still clinging to the role of sensible, together, good big sister. Keep your mouth shut, mind your manners and do better. A Little Extra

Scarlett Vandervort is the eldest of the Vandervort sisters and yes, has played the role of ‘mom’ to the rest of her family (even to their mom). She’s always been a perfectionist, a golden child, an overachiever because if she could achieve, then she would be noticed. She’d be praised. And if she did really, really, really well... Maybe her dad would notice. Maybe her dad would come home. When they were young, Mr Vandervort had an affair but unlike with most frivolous affairs on the Upper East Side, this one stuck. One day he packed up his bags, broke his girls’ hearts and moved the mistress into his penthouse apartment. Scarlett was furious, heartbroken and the one who had to keep it all together. She became the glue, the one who took care of everyone else. The one who held sweet Sophia when she was crying, the one who argued until she was blue in the face with Sapphire when she acted out. The one who made sure their mom was tucked in, wine glass tucked into the dishwasher, safe and sound.

Scarlett wasn’t allowed to fall apart though. No, Scarlett had to be perfect. She was doing really well too, you know? Focusing on her work, on logical solutions and letting the cold, hard truth of her father’s betrayal keep her from wavering. Then the announcement was made, the ‘save the dates’ were sent out. He was going to marry the mistress. It hit Scarlett like a freight train. She cried for the first time since he left and she didn’t stop. She started drinking a little too much wine, started missing deadlines. She started to unravel. Perfect Scarlett Vandervort couldn’t fall apart though, that wasn’t a part of the plan so maybe she took a little something to get back on track. To get her concentration back. It was just for studying, okay? And she’s so close to graduating from Brown and getting into medical school. She’s so close to being the perfect person she always wanted to be. Always thought she wanted to be. Thought her father would want her to be. If she just ignores the rest of the world - even her damn family - and focuses on herself, then she can do this. Right?

Sophia and Sapphire Vandervort - the sisters! Scarlett always got on better with sweet baby Sophia than with Sapphire. She and Saph were constantly at each other’s throats, cruel truths and vicious remarks thrown at each other. It was because of Him, of course. Their father and for a while, they realised that and for a while, it was better. Until it wasn’t. Now Sapphire’s gone and Scarlett doesn’t have the time for sweet baby Sophia.

Faith Mendez - the best friend forever. Faith and Scarlett have been friends since they were kids, sharing a career dream and a real disregard for Constance Billard’s cliquey BS bonding them for life.

Addison Sherwood - college bestie. Scarlett, Faith and Addie are the future-docs-of-the-UES club.

Logan Hunter - Scarlett tutored Logan in high school (perhaps the greatest challenge of her life at the time) and, admittedly, had a giant crush on them. She didn’t trust him though, believing whispered rumours about his reputation. Thankfully, they managed to get past that. Logan is the one person she can still be soft with.

Alexandra Vandervort was supposed to be the perfect little lady. At least, that was her parents’ hope. They found out very early on however that Alex was never going to be a lady and what she’s perfect at is effing shit up. She’s always had a curious, adventurous, wild heart that has clashed time and time again with the Upper East Side. Alex is always scheming, thinking up hilarious pranks to pull or just how she can ruin the next big event... It’s a full time job, basically. She’s opinionated, argumentative and single minded to the point of recklessness. If it wasn’t for Alex’s parents making such generous donations to Constance Billard, she would have been expelled about a hundred times over. Alex craves to be her own person, free of the crushing weight of misguided expectations. Dare to dream, right? Nate Archibald could certainly relate. Despite her penchant for trouble, Alex had excellent grades and even tutored the classmates she couldn’t stand when necessary. Julliard was always the dream for her though, always.  Always ready to dance, have fun and flirt with some pretty face, Alex has never let her heart get involved. Besides, crushes are embarrassing and feelings? Oh boy, don’t even get her started. What turned out to be the real thing she should have been on lookout for was bonfire beach parties. And a pretty face. Alex kept it under wraps (literally in those oversized coats) for as long as possible but thanks to her cousin’s well meaning, drunk, big mouth... The whole Upper East Side found out that Alexandra Vandervort was pregnant. She refused to tell anyone- her parents included- who the father was. Her parents were in a stand off with her and it ended in them telling her to get out then. Thankfully, BFF Jesse Walker was there to welcome her home and he, and her closest friends, were more than willingly to look out for her. Alex was- is- scared and grateful, and can’t believe she’s going to be a mom. Right now though? She is heavily pregnant, deferred from her dream school and pretty much ready to eat anyone who looks at her the wrong way.
