Getting the van looked at today. We already know it's a transmission problem, and the mechanic's first guess is the gears are slipping into overdrive.
Sooo, long story short, our van broke down in Manhattan. It's at a repair place awaiting to get fixed. After 3 hours of talking on the phone and lots of confusion and stress, the conclusion is, it's going to cost $1100 to fix our van. At this point we are unable to move the van from the shop because it won't start so we are stuck here till it's fixed. Since we sleep in it we now have no place to stay unless they somehow fix it by the end of the day. We are stuck. We are going to put our paypal email below. If you find it in your heart to help us out, feel free to send us something. As a thank you, we will send you some stickers and stuff in the mail. It's the least we can do. Thank you guys so much! We hope to be back on the road soon! PLEASE SEND MONEY TO: [email protected] if you would like to help us! Thanks again! -TOC
Seriously thank you...
So, we've had a lot of turmoil around us lately. With Kyle leaving and then the van breaking down on us last week, it's just been alot to deal with. But the amount of support we've gotten lately, and the outpour of people wanting to help is insane. So seriously, thank you. To get everyone updated, we have a van! We bought a 98 Chevy Express, and we're hoping she's gonna be good to us. Our loan came through today so I spent the day buying the van, getting the tags, title and insurance for it, and then trying to get to the show on time. We do still owe a good bit of money on the last van that we had, so we aren't out of trouble yet, but we are definitely looking alot better. And there is NO CHANCE WHATSOEVER THAT WE ARE CANCELLING SQUID LIFE. The tour starts next week and we couldn't be more excited. To get everyone updated on the Guitarist situation, our bassist Wayne is going to be switching to guitar temporarily and our good friend Mark Styles will be filling in for us on Bass. The point of this post, the entirity of this post, is to say thank you. Thank you to Mark for filling in for us. Thanks to our friends and fans for posting things about the van troubles and getting people involved. Thanks to our friends at the pop punk blogs and new sites for having our backs. Thanks for buying extra copies of our record. Thanks for buying and wearing our shirts. Thanks for posting our lyrics. Thanks for giving a shit. This tour, the squid life tour, would literally have been Carridale-less if it wasn't for you. And I can't thank you enough. This is also telling you you do not need to donate to us anymore. We're good, we're gonna be good, and you guys are the reason. Specifically Alyssa Lemley, Lauren Bradley, our boy Bryan Gonzalez from San Antonio, and Josh Turner. People who just gave us money, and asked for nothing. You have the biggest hearts and we owe you. I'm happy tonight because the people behind us are the best kind. And I just wanted to say thank you, and I can't fucking wait for the Squid Life Tour. Hope to see you soon
So here's the deal...
Last week, the van died on me. I had it towed to a mechanic to look at it, but I knew one way or another it wouldn't be good. It was making a loud clanking noise in the engine and all we could do is wait it out and see what was what. So today I've been told that our entire crank shaft is done for, meaning we will need a new engine. We originally bought the van for 3000 dollars 3 years back. The new engine would cost us anywhere from 3500 to 5000. So basically, the van is dead. There is no way we can spend that kind of money on repairs. So here we sit. We have decisions to make, the only problem is there is no right answer. Considering how much we have been on the road in the past few years, all of our credit in the band is atrocious. I applied, personally, at 7 different banks/dealerships/loan offices and got turned down at every one. The van we have we have paid for ourselves through touring and through shows. But on paper that means absolutely nothing. The band is not incorporated and thus, not taxed, and not an official business in the eyes of creditors and bankers. Despite us definitely being able to make the payments on a van, we cant actually prove it. We are not giving up though, dont take this as that. This is me filling in anyone interested in the details of what is actually taking place with our van situation. The wildones tour this spring ate through our funds because gas jumped a dollar with all the revolutions in the middle east. We had to dip into merch funds to survive and make it from place to place. But we did indeed survive. Since then, we've been home and I've been working two separate jobs apart from the band to try and raise the money. With the help of fans and me working a crap ton, I managed to replace our water pump, fuel pump, get cosmetic things fixed, and all new tires as ours were done for. And then this happened. We are scheduled to leave for the squid life tour with our friends in With the Punches and Thieves next week. But unless this situation is resolved through whatever means, we won't be able to do the tour. I assure you, I am attempting everything in my power to get this fixed, but being in a touring band of our size means we are broke, and definitely need any sort of help possible. If you want to help, picking up anything from http://carridale.bigcartel.com or http://carridale.bandcamp.com will go straight to us. Also, our good friend Joe Hurst over at Hang Tight Records has offered that any sale made in the next week on hang tight's site (http://www.hangtightrecords.co.uk) half of that sale will go to us to try and get us out of this hole and on the road. You can also send donations through paypal to [email protected] If you know anyone that has a tour size van for sale, or someone that can do engine work for cheap cheap cheap or possibly free, or any junk yard that has an engine for a 99 chevy express 2500 for cheap. Please let me know. You can contact me via email 24 hours a day ([email protected]). We are not beggars and we definitely don't feel any sort of entitlement here. This is me asking, humbly, if you can help please do. And I will keep everyone updated on where we are at with this situation and what can possibly be done. Thank you guys for the support so far, my every intention is to have Carridale back out on the road for the Squid Life Tour next week. -Nathan
