Is Dries Van Noten just a designer?
After almost 40 years of Dries Van Noten at the eponymous brand, we need to say goodbye. Who started as a student at the Antwerp Fashion Academy who could sell his shirts to stores like Barneys New York, ended with one of the most unique & famous Belgian fashion houses.
Dries is a storytelling designer who melts aspects of multiple cultures together into a collection, and he does it close to perfect. He takes culturally diverse styles with his signature embroidery & beaded textiles in the traditional folkloric techniques. Techniques mostly used in India, Eastern Europe or Morocco. The craftsmanship behind is the key and take both for the details or fabric. Often a collection can take up to 1000 varieties of garment.
With two years of having a smaller DVN store, Dries opened the store in ‘Het Modepaleis’, a building located in the center of Antwerp, in 1989. For the ‘member’ of the Antwerp Six it came fast. Building success with a unique vibe & atmosphere on the runways & a sophistication to ethnicity. The sense for colours & fabric is what characterizes Dries Van Noten. follow on Instagram for more
