Chapter 14 of the Shrike out 🩸🥀

thought of a scene where sirius and peter offer to go fetch ice cream for the rest one hot summer day, and sirius has to hold himself back the entire time from feasting on peter in the dark. it’s a slippery slope however, and sirius struggles even when peter asks him about the forest he’d disappeared into, and probes into the fact that he managed to come out unharmed, return to them despite months of disappearance. sirius thinks it’s for the best if he does it, if he bites into peter’s neck and devours all of his friend. eliminate the suspicion and satiate his hunger at the same time. it would be worth it, it would be worth it, it would be—

remus’ appearance surprises sirius. suddenly invading his opportunity as he wedges himself between them, under the guise that he wanted to purchase something else too. the reality was remus knew. he knew exactly how difficult this would be for sirius, to be out in the open, surrounded by the strong scent of blood, just waiting for him to indulge. he mostly feared for peter’s life but also what would become of sirius? remus had the power to stop him, and he’d have regretted it if he hadn’t. if he hadn’t grabbed sirius’ hand and whisked him away, back home with the excuse of sirius feeling a little ill despite his normal appearance.

sirius is pissed though once they reach, yanking his wrist away from remus’ grip and confronting him immediately. he presumes remus doesn’t trust him anymore, fears him when he should know his best friend. he should have known sirius would never hurt another person, especially not their friend. unfortunately, remus doesn’t believe him. not when the vessels underneath his eyes had been emphasised just seconds before remus had caught them and spoilt the moment. not when remus had noted the way sirius drew in on james close, too threateningly close for remus’ liking.

it makes sirius burst in anger, ‘i can’t keep staying cooped up in here, remus!’ he yells. ‘you can’t hide me from society forever just because you’re scared of what i’ll do!’

‘you were going to hurt him! of course i’m fucking scared, sirius. had i not been there, you’d have killed him.’

‘that’s not true.’ sirius argues. ‘i would know how to control myself, but i need to feed. i’m hungry, and you locking me up with you isn’t going to change that.’

‘fine then,’ remus lifts up his sleeve, extending out his wrist towards sirius abruptly. ‘feed.’

it catches sirius off guard, surprising him completely. he hadn’t seen it coming. remus knew to keep his distance, and sirius had told him from the start that he would never dare to hurt remus. he shakes his head, stepping back, refusing.

‘why not? you want to feed, don’t you?’

‘not you, moony. i could never—’
