Early sketches for a vampire finch character I designed for the latest issue of Glory Hounds! My vision for his design is that he should ooze miserability at all times
Uncharismatic Fact of the Day
These birds are real bloodsuckers! Vampire finches get their unique feeding habits. Individuals use their sharp beaks to create shallow wounds in the body and wings of larger birds like boobies, and drink the exposed blood as a supplement to their diet of insects. However, their victims don't seem to mind-- it's thought that this behaviour also removes parasites from their host's feathers.

3. Marabou Stork
AKA the undertaker bird. He intimidates me
4. Stygian Owl
Ok I’ll admit their eyes are only red in the dark BUT!! I like them :) also u cant see them here but they have these cute lil tufts on their heads and they look like mothman ok. Trust me
5. Vampire Finch
Arguably the baddest bitch here for drinking blood but I just found out they like to drink from Boobies specifically lmaooooooo
6. Satanic Nightjar
Satanic Nightjar gets an honorable mention here purely bc of the name tbh. It’s also been called the diabolical nightjar and devilish nightjar. Idk why they’re so mean to him he’s just a little guy
7. Luzon Bleeding-heart
Literally evolved to already have the fake blood on for the party they are wasting no time AND it looks impressively realistic!!! Who else is doing it like them
8. Noisy Friarbird
This is a more understated choice but I stand strong by it!! It’s like goth but in the opposite of the piping guan to me
9. Lesser Sooty Owl
This thang is like the grim reaper to me 💕
10. Common Potoo

Sniling so sneetly :)
I’m on mobile so I cant add any more rn but there Will be a part 2
Familiar Friday - Vampire Finch
A serious content warning when looking up this particular familiar: the Vampire Finch got its name from pecking into +drinking the blood from legs of other animals like a vampire bat (at least, sometimes. They aren’t strict hematophores).
Look them up and you will find them doing just that and it’s pretty unpleasant. Not that insect or bat teeth are especially ‘fun’ to see in action either, but something about a bird beak committed to it…bothers me.
