Vamp Remus x human Virgil because Thomas confirmed Remus sleeps in a coffin in a tweet
Virgil was unhealthily obsessed with vampires (not to a weird annoying extent ofc but he loved them) then he met a weird vampire and was fascinated lol. That vampire was Remus. The vampire was weird asf but Virgil didnât mind as first. Virgil was excited to have a vampire friend
But the vampire was already head over heels in love lol. He gave off the human hints of his affection but the human never gave in or noticed.
Virgil=21 year old college student
Remus= been alive since 18th century
Roman is in this au but itâs logince lol. He and Virgil are besties.
Remus lives in a castle with Roman. Their parents abandoned them when Roman and Remus were teens and left for a better life. (Roman is bitter about it but Remus doesnât care)
The twins are close but Remus annoys Roman and Roman wants Remus to be more empathetic and more humane.
Roman is number dukexiety shipper cuz heâs never seen his brother like this before lol.
This is where I'd insert a joke about emo kids being mistaken for vampires if I had one
You know Remus would immediately latch onto this weird human gremlin. Unfortunately for him, courting in the 18th century is very different from modern dating, so of course Virgil doesn't catch on at first
And of course Remus would be just as oblivious if Virgil had the guts to flirt with him. The pure frustration building between the pair would drive Roman absolutely insane. How can his OTP be so dense?? This is why he's single. im gonna go ahead and willingly ignore that part of the ask before the ick hits
I found your Vampire AU idea, and I have to say it's an interesting one. I like both vampire-Roman and vampire-Virgil as concepts, and I might give something like this a run at some point - BUT! Unsympathetic/antagonistic/villain versions of the Sides is not something I'm into, so that would change; maybe Roman would LOOK like an antagonist at first because the more modern and down-to-earth Virgil actually sounds more sane, but really he's just not thinking. Patton could reform him. ;)
Actually, that idea was one of my very firsts and itâs funny you mention it, because it wouldnât be villain!Roman anymore. And I did have an old chapter for it I wrote where Roman and Patton meet up and Patton does start getting to him. I was hoping for some Royality in there.
For spoilers, Iâll put it below the cut.
So the vampire AUÂ is about 2 years old now so a lot has changed! Virgil gets tricked by a vampire into being turned into one himself. He was manipulated and runs off and starts fighting the vampire and his group that tricked him.
10 years later, Patton and Logan get attacked and Virgil saves them and tells them to stay out of the streets because itâs not safe at night. They get curious and do research and find a bunch of old news articles about people missing a decade ago. They become armature hunters and Virgil appears again to save them once more. He decides if he canât stop them, heâll train them so they donât get themselves killed.
Eventually he tells the story of a vampire named Roman who is turning others and building an army. For what, he hasnât learned yet, but thereâs a lot of them and heâs very outnumbered. The story was going to be analogical with oblivious Virgil.
The story now is that itâs not actually Roman but a vampire named Remus. He and Roman were twins way back when and Roman got injured and was turned. Remus was always ill growing up and it got worse and worse until he wasnât going to make it through the winter. Roman asked if he wanted to be turned to save his life, letting Remus finally be strong enough to get out of bed and see the world like he always wanted. Once Remus was healthy, Roman began to realize how terrible of an idea it was. Remus, who was once on deaths door, found joy in a lot of darker things. He loved hurting others and found immense joy in it all. From then on, Roman has been trying to stop his twin to make amends for what he had done, not knowing how much damage Remus was capable of.
Patton finds Roman one night and is immediately on edge, calling him out for hurting Virgil. OF COURSE since Roman never did any of that, he was very confused but pieced things together. Having found Remus, Roman explained the story then told Patton to grab as many people as would listen and leave. Patton believes that THIS is the real Roman, his story was true, and decides to help.
(Also the scene where Patton and Roman meet, Roman is immediately smitten) Remus had been targeting Patton just to get under Loganâs skin, making him choose between Virgil and Patton. So when Roman discovers Patton has been a target, he swears on whatever humanity he has left that he will defend Patton until the end.
My idea for Remus would be that he had been so sick that society had outcasted him and left him for dead. He had heard people tell him things that left him in such a state that he grows bitter for it and lashes out.

Virgil actually flinched back, surprised by the borrowerâs anger. Unfortunately, it was entirely justified, and Virgil couldnât find it in him to be angry in retaliation.
âWell...what do you want from me?â Virgil half-heartedly spat. âIâm not some saint just because thatâd be convenient for you. Iâm a vile monster of the night, and the only reason I havenât preyed on you is because Iâm a sucky one at that. I am a creature of malevolence whoâs flawed enough that you should be dead but youâre not and I lack the capability to be merciful because sparring your life is in no way an act of mercy, nor an act of cruelty from which I benefit, and now Iâm stuck here.â
Logan let out a long sigh, running a hand through his hair. âYou do know you do not need to atone to what you believe a stereotypical vampire is, right? You obviously have some form of compassion, at least the ability to feel and show it. The reason you are so torn on this whole matter is that you are still trying to force yourself to be what you think you are supposed to be.â Logan looked at him with pleading eyes. âYou do not have to be a vile monster. You could let me go.â
âThatâs- it doesnât work that way.â Virgil shook his head, fangs appearing to bite at his lip. His brothers would never let him live it down if they found he was fostering a borrower again, and Virgil didnât want to chance them ever finding out. âI am what I am. Itâs better to accept that. Youâre the one who sees me differently.â
âVirgil, please, if you really canât eat me, then wouldnât it be better to simply let me go? And then we can both move on and forget this ever happened.â Logan pleaded again. He just wanted to go back to his life.
âHardly.â Virgil leaned against the wall, giving Logan a considering glance. âWhere would you go?â
Logan blinked. âBack home? Where I live and all my stuff resides?â He thought that would be obvious.
âWould you stay there?â Virgil reworked his question. âI know you were trying to move when I found you.â
âWhat? No I wasnât.â Logan frowned, wondering why Virgil would think that. âI was looking for Roman. Moving was the farthest thing from my mind.â After all, if he moved he was less likely to find Roman.
â...oh.â Virgil said. âWell then what about now?â
Logan paused. He...hadnât actually thought about that. âWell...borrower rules indicate I should move. Since you know where I reside. But I am...unsure if I would actually do that.â He liked that place and if Virgil were to let him go he shouldnât have to worry about him coming back...right?
âItâd be suicide to move.â Virgil informed him. âVampires can only enter homes when theyâre invited in. The walls are safe, itâs probably how you guys have survived this long; your ancestors figured out tricks to avoid my kind. If youâre outside youâre fair game.â
Logan swallowed. âThen yes, I would stay. Moving is a dangerous journey by itself as well, even discluding the vampire threats.â That Logan didnât know of until now and was very happy he hadnât run into one before.
Virgil moved his jaw, the cogs in his head beginning to turn. âWhat about Roman?â
Logan bit his lip. âWell...if Roman is not yet...dead, then I would ask your help to save him and let him go as well.â A bit of hope was rising up in Logan but he pushed it down. He knew better.
âNo. He stays here.â Virgil tilted his chin up. âSay you were back home with that knowledge. Would you leave to save his life, or stay to save your own?â
âI would leave to try and save him.â Logan said, barely thinking about it. âWhether you think that foolish, I do not care.â Logan thought it was too...but he would physically be unable to stay home safe knowing Roman was here still.
Virgil let out a groan, annoyed at the borrowerâs foolishness. âThen I guess youâre staying here too.â
âWhy. Seriously, what is the point in you keeping me-in keeping us-here?â Logan asked. âWhat is it about us that you think would make a good pet?â Logan was genuinely curious.
âNo, itâs...itâs not that.â Virgil cringed, knowing his own motives were not exactly pure. âItâs difficult to explain.â
âDifficult as it may be, I would find it beneficial if you would try.â Logan said.
âImagine that.â Virgil muttered. He should have known Logan would not be so easily dissuaded. âWell, on the one hand, I donât care about you or what you want. On the other⊠if you were somewhere else, youâd definitely get hurt.â
Logan blinked. âThat...sounds like you care.â Now Logan was just confused. Again.
âI donât.â Virgil insisted, his tone less biting than he would have liked. âIâm just not letting someone else get their claws on you.â
âWhy?â Logan asked, eyebrows furrowed. âIf you really didnât care about me, you wouldnât care if some other vampire got a hold of me or I died some other way. Unless, of course, you simply see me as one of your things and are territorialâŠâ Logan muttered the last bit more to himself.
Virgilâs expression twitched. âOnly I get to lay claim to your blood. Iâm gonna drink it, or no one will.â
â...And until you do,â if, Virgil ever did which Logan was highly doubting at this point. âIâm forced to stay here, in this cage, acting more or less like a pet.â
â...yeah.â Virgil slumped to the side against his bookshelf.
â...Right.â Logan sighed, glancing in another direction. Logan was never getting out of here, at least, not alive. â...May I have something to eat now? Or have I not earned it?â
âNo, you donât- you donât have to earn it.â Virgil winced. He pushed himself off from the wall. âIâll be back in a bit.â
Logan just nodded, watching warily as Virgil stood up.
Virgil grabbed the bowl, disappearing in a cloud of smoke. The bat flew out the window, with the bowl clutched in its feet. All was quiet for several minutes, when a human-shaped Virgil walked back in, the bowl filled with berries in his hands.Â
âHere.â Virgil announced, putting it inside the cage.
Logan took a step back as Virgilâs hand came in the cage but then came forward to the bowl, grabbing a berry. It seemed Virgil knew which ones to take now, as all of these were safe to eat. âThank you.â He said, before sitting down near the bowl and going about eating.
âDonât thank me.â Virgil muttered, letting the door stay swung open as he slumped into an armchair that looked very over-worn.
Logan hummed but continued to eat. âYou are getting better at choosing which berries to pick.â Logan noted, saying aloud his previous thought.
âTheyâre easier to catch than squirrels.â Virgil gave a half-hearted snort, remembering his first attempt to feed the borrower.
âI...can imagine.â Logan felt his lips twitch up ever so slightly. âAlso, Iâm not at risk at contracting rabies from fruit.â
âThatâs a thing?â Virgil raised an eyebrow. It seemed new diseases popped up to hurt the living every day. âSo...is there anything you eat besides berries?â
âIâve actually hardly ever eaten berries. If you remember, I do not go outside often. Or ever, really. The time you caught me was an exception. I usually eat anything a human does. Usually scraps or leftovers that humans leave out or drop.â Logan explained.
âAnd⊠what exactly is it that humans eat nowadays?â Virgil tugged at his sleeve, a bit embarrassed not to know the answer.
It was certainly strange that Virgil didnât know that but he supposed he couldnât blame the vampire for not knowing. âWell...they eat a number of things. Certain kinds of meat and protein, vegetables, fruits, and then things like junk food, like candy or chips.â Logan listed. âCould you not just go into a grocery store and see for yourself?â
âI donât exactly âblend inâ.â Virgil deadpanned, purposefully letting his fangs hang over his lip.
âMaybe...not. But from my experience, humans are willing to believe anything. Or, in some cases, believe that they didnât actually see anything. Humans are stupid. I have not doubt if you go in with some sunglasses, the humans will think nothing of you. In fact, you could probably go in as you are and they will probably think you a simply âdressing upâ.â Humans were indeed dumb like that. Although it was thanks to that that Logan hadnât been caught before this.
Virgil blinked, surprised by this idea. âYou seriously think thatâd work?â
âIâd say it has a very high chance of success from my own experience with humans.â Logan nodded.
âMaybe Iâll test that out.â Virgil seemed to be seriously considering it. âJust, one question⊠what are sunglasses?â
Logan actually found himself chuckling at that. âAh, they are...well, these are glasses.â Logan said, taking off his own pair. âSunglasses are like these, but have a darker tint that blocks out the sun.â
âOh.â Virgil leaned forwards, trying to picture a pair for himself. âI wonder if thatâs what Patton doesâŠâ
Logan frowned. âDoes...Patton go out a lot?â That was certainly interesting.
âA fair amount.â Virgil shrugged. âMostly just with one human, that uh...the one you lived with. And not during the day, because heâs not stupid, but he still likes to have actual friends instead of being stuck with just... me.â
Logan eyebrows furrowed. âAnd you are...okay with this?â It didn't sound like it.
âPatton can do what he wants.â Virgil shrugged. âI donât- I donât own him.âÂ
âThatâs not really what I meant but good to see someone of your own species does not have the same fate as me.â Logan said, a bit bitter. âNo, I meant more like, you donât really sound happy about it. Almost...jealous, I would say. Or sad. Maybe a mix of both.â
âIâm not jealous.â Virgil seemed to cringe at the idea. âI mean, yeah, I like Pattonâs company, but heâd be miserable trapped here. And yeah, itâs frustrating being alone, but-â Virgil abruptly cut himself off, coming to a sudden conclusion. Was that why it had become all but impossible to eat Logan? Virgil had grown attached to the company he gained while Patton was out? It was entirely possible, and also worrying, because a trapped borrower was hardly decent company. It was downright depressing.
âI...manage enough on my own.â Virgil lamely finished.
Logan frowned, searching Virgilâs eyes. It was obviously a lie but should Logan bring it up? He might make Virgil angry again and he didnât really want that right now. So, he just nodded, deciding to ask something else. âHas it always just been you and Patton?â
Virgil stiffened. âThatâs not even possible, if Iâm the one who turned him. Bit of a chicken and the egg scenario, genius.â
Logan sighed. âLet me rephrase then. Before you turned Patton, were you alone? And after you turned Patton, was it just the two of you?â
â...yes.â Virgil answered carefully, trying to decide how much to share. âWhen I found Patton, I was alone.â
âInteresting.â Logan murmured. âSo, you did not have parents? Or any family at all?â
âI did, but I left.â Virgil gripped his arm tightly.
âYou...left? And why did you do that?â Logan couldnât help but ask, curiosity piqued.Â
âBecause they kicked me out.â Virgil thought the line was a bit hazy between who wanted him to leave first. âI told them they were wrong, and cruel, and I got disowned for it.â
Logan blinked, eyes going wide. âYou...thought them to be cruel? You? Do I even want to ask what they did to warrant your disapproval?â Virgil himself was already cruel and encouraged Patton to be the same so...how bad had his parents been?
âI doubt it.â Virgil scoffed, searching Loganâs face to see if the borrower actually wanted answers.
Logan bit his lip. âI...am curious to know anyway.â He needed to know what his parents could have possibly done. What were Virgilâs limits? This very well could tell him.
Virgil looked off at a spot on his wall, his eyes becoming unfocused as he remembered.
âIt was mostly my brothers.â Virgil said, his voice uncharacteristically quiet. âI mean, everybody in my family is a pure-blooded vampire. Theyâve trained me in their ways, how to hunt and feed and stay on top of the food chain by shoving anybody who dared oppose us down. Thatâs the basics, anyways.â Virgil spared Logan the details, of the dungeons and the slaves and the screaming-
âI didnât care much about all that.â Virgil admitted a bit guiltily. âItâs terrible, but thatâs life. I was keeping my head down and doing as I was told. I blocked it out and survived, and in that way I guess I should be grateful for what they taught me.â
Now Logan was just...confused. âPlease do not take offense to this.â He started with, hoping Virgil wouldnât be mad. âBut from what I have seen of you...it seems like you follow in their footsteps? I hardly see why you would have left, anyway.â
âI really am their perfect little spawn, arenât I?â Virgil muttered bitterly, almost to himself. âYeah, I probably would have been fine there. Miserable, but fine. But then a borrower-â Virgil paused, knowing that Emile deserved none of the blame for Virgilâs mistake. âBut then my brother had to ruin it all.â
Virgil shifted, trying to keep his voice steady as he recounted this story as quickly as possible. âI found a borrower, didnât know what it was. Got attached. Got hungry. Brothers smelled it on me, got jealous. Took what was mine, and-â Virgilâs breath hitched, a traitorous tear collecting in his eye. He wiped it away furiously. âCircle of life, I guess.â
Loganâs eyes were blown wide at this new information. âA...borrower. You...left your family because your brother ate a borrower?â That...didnât make any sense. Since obviously, even if Virgil never ate Logan, he still very much advocated it for Patton.
â...a family of them.â Virgil picked at the edge of his sleeve, his throat tightening. âThey decided to take residence in our mansion. Not exactly their smartest move, huh? Living in a vampireâs home. Really they were doomed from the start. It should hardly be a big deal.â
âExactly. So...why was it?â Logan asked. âWhy did you...leave over it.â
Virgil grimaced, squeezing his eyes tightly as the images flashed through his mind, vivid even centuries later.
âWhatâre you hiding, runt?â
âGive it back, itâs mine-â
âAw, lilâ baby tooth is hoarding snacks in his room?â
âYouâll never be a real vamp if you keep waiting around. Open up~â
âNO! Virgil, please, you promised-â
âYou gonna listen to the prey the size of your fist or you gonna respect that your older brother knows a few things you donât?â
âI⊠I donât want to eat him. Thereâs plenty of food downstairs.â
âOh yes, a few gallons of deoxygenated blood or a lifetime of eternal strength, take your pick.â
âItâs the circle of life, you insolent thorn, now learn your place.â

Taste - Chapter 11
âSo you only wanted me for my blood?â Remus asks, his expression turning stony and closed off.Â
âThatâs not what Iâm saying,â Sirius shoots back, lifting a hand to rake through his hair. Remus tracks the movement of his hand and sits a little straighter. âIâm saying youâre kind and smart and very witty. I like the green of your eyes and the way your pulse picks up around me and your straight teeth andââ Sirius huffsâ âyour dreams. I took your dreams, Remus. You loved them.â
Remus cocks his head, as if heâs surprised by Siriusâ outpouring. âI didnâtâŠâ
âNot just your blood, Remus. Never just your blood,â Sirius says softly, tipping his chin up to try and go some way towards vulnerability.Â
