I need help and you’re the best resource I know for LOTR stuffs
So I was explaining a LOTR reference in a tvshow to a friend right? And I kinda went down a rabbithole and ended up explaining why the ring is so important to Gollum. And as I was explaining that he was a hobbit who lived a supernaturally long life because of the ring’s powers, which is why he is scrawny and deformed, I remembered Bilbo.
Maybe I remember wrong, but didn’t Bilbo live a super long life because of the ring too? And then didn’t he age considerably after being parted with the ring? To the point he was basically at his end years because his health declined so much when he sailed away from middleearth?
So why didn’t Gollum die after being parted from the ring for a few decades?? He had already lived too long of a life because of the ring, his health was barely together with the ring, shouldn’t he have aged considerably too and ended up dying in the cave before Bilbo even gave Frodo the ring?
Did Gollum still live because the ring had affected him for so long???
