In case you are wondering about all the Strange Aeons I just reblogged, it’s cuz I only just realized I haven’t been reblogging @valhahazred‘s brilliant creation, just liking ‘em, and am trying to rectify this error immediately.
Last spring I stumbled upon an amazing artist’s gallery, which led me to another amazing artist’s gallery. I had to wait until the time was right to show you their spooky creations. Here are selections from a spectacular series Valha Hazred made in August of 2019. Click the source link for many other creative creatures.
“Meteor Mummy” by Valha Hazred was inspired by yellow journalism.
A plug
It will no doubt surprise those of you who only know me via this tumblr, but despite my love of all things pulp, I make an exception for the works of H. P. Lovecraft. I don’t find them at all compelling, and the stranglehold his work has on pop culture irks me.
(this is entirely asides from the problematic elements, which to be fair I can ignore in the works of other pulp writers so I ought to be able to in HPL’s)
That said, the existence of said works is justified, in my mind, because without it we wouldn’t have Strange Aeons. This marvelous thingummy, the creation of DeviantArtist (and poster on at least one forum board that I also post on) ValhaHazred, began life as theoretical “concept art“ for a fictional video game set in the far future of a Lovecraftian setting, long after R’lyeh had risen, when what’s left of man has adapted to the new order of things.
I’m no art expert, but I like what I see; all of their creatures are richly imagined and look great, but what’s really impressive is the worldbuilding.
Y’all should check it out, it’s great stuff.
