How did Cullen go past his trauma and come to love a mage ? I imagine it must have taken more than just time to get there. In any case, you're so sweet together
It was definitely a slow process!
When Cullen and I met, he was very distrustful of mages, though I understand that he was a far cry from the way he’d been just a little while before that.
He was working hard to unlearn some things, and there was definitely more than a few slip ups, let me tell you. Admittedly, when I first spoke to him at Haven, I was wary. He was clearly very wary of magic, and I of templars- former or otherwise.
The more we spoke over time though, the more I came to admire his determination to better himself.
I won’t go into too much detail about his struggles- Maker knows Thedas has enough tales of woe- but working through his trauma and seeing the good mages were doing around him most certainly helped him to see the light, for lack of a better phrase. He had always had trouble talking about his issues, and of allowing himself to be vulnerable, but we got there. Eventually, the dam had to burst. The first time he let me see him cry, I thought my heart would explode. I was so very proud of him, and honoured to be so trusted. I think being free of the lyrium leash helped too, even though it was hellish for him at first.
Like it did with me, I believe that his love for me rather snuck up on him. But I assure you, many strenuous debates and arguments occurred surrounding magic. I am happy to report they are far less common now. He loves every part of me, magic included.
I’m very very proud of how far Cullen has come, and I will gladly step into the future with him at my side, as we battle for peace and justice. There’s nobody I’d rather do that with.
Thank you so much! I like to think we make a good pair.
