Quick thoughts. For now.

I will always headcanon Cullen as still being in love with Surana well into, and even beyond, the events of Dragon Age: Inquisition, based on the various details we're given in-game.

DAO - it's an open secret around Kinloch Hold that he's in love with Surana.

"Tempting me with the one thing I always wanted, but could never have."

(Of course, Zev, with that interjection, making me snort and shoot the screen a side-eye. Killing the tension, Zev. Let the drama percolate! /laughs.)

I was glad Dess did the side-eye for me.

What really cements it for me, though, is the way he speaks about the Hero of Ferelden years later. His choice of words reminds me of Solas when he's asked about a romanced Lavellan in Veilguard. There's a similar restraint to it; a quiet, deep fondness that says more than an overt declaration ever could.

Cullen: "She was a lovely woman."

Solas: "She is a good woman."

If asked about Surana in DAI:

(The linked video is NOT mine. Thus, I'll have to make sure I pay attention to any possible differences in these lines when I replay Inquisition with a non-romanced Cullen. I am curious about what he says instead of "A feeling I had forsaken until recently.")
