Tony had been experimenting with time travel. He wasn't actually going to attempt it, but it was just a fun sort of side project to mess with the theory. And then there was a weird surge of energy and the unfinished runes had been activated and it had left Tony like he was now--very small and very young and very unsure of what he did and didn't remember. He knew he was actually an adult and that his current state was an accident, but a lot of his other memories were slipping away, so when he saw Pepper coming down the stairs and he didn't remember much more about her than her name and that he trusted her, he latched on. "Pepper, thank god, I'm... It was an accident. Don't be mad?"

Tony never had been good at locking doors behind him, but it hadn’t mattered before he’d invited people to live with him. He had his wand between his teeth and he was manipulating holograms with one hand while controlling several delicate floating tools with the other. He nearly dropped them when he noticed Natasha, but caught stuff at the last second. “Oh, uh, hey.”

It had been morbid curiosity that lead fifteen-year-old Tony to join the small group of students attempting to perform an old Norse ritual supposed to summon the gods. He didn’t think it was going to work, because he didn’t believe in gods, but he did really desperately want to know what it would do. As it turned out, it was nothing except for the frankly terrifying amount of raw magic that everyone felt gathering and then disappear. Tony never had been cautious, though, and he attempted it again on his own the next night, just to see if there were different results.

“Oh. Hey, Brucie.” Tony had just gotten home and had one foot still in the pants he was changing out of. The boots he’d just kicked off were of a dragon-skin variety and the formal robes on the bed were definitely not the latest in New York non-magical fashion. “Um. Yeah.” He finished kicking off the pants and stood up awkwardly. “You’re home early.”

Howard was a squib, Maria a nomaj, and Howard was bitter about Tony’s ability to use magic his whole life. If Tony did use magic, he was cheating, if he didn’t, he wasn’t using his full potential. He was never allowed in the labs or at expos or tech conferences because of the chance of accidental magic and there was much less press coverage of him as a child than in my other verses.

"Hey Tasha? Can you toss my wand over here?" He was sitting at a desk piled high with notes, fiddling with the back of a mirror and a scalpel.
