Billy felt like he'd been digging himself out for forever. His boots dug in, almost like swimming; he wasn't sure when the texture of the dirt changed.
Magic needs to gestate, Lilia said. Marinate.
Be careful what you wish for, said Jen. It'll take it the wrong way.
Magic has a price, Agatha said.
He knew the cost last time. Or at least he thought he did. But his brother was out there in the universe somewhere. He didn't want to be alone anymore; he wanted someone to understand. Last time, The Road took him underground, so that didn't seem all that weird. Finally, his hand reached up, and it felt like air. Real air. He pulled himself out of the small hole he'd burst from, coughing and wiping dirt off of his face.. There were some details he took in from the periphery. Water sounds, but not the accompanying sand. Something like music, but none of the notes seemed to follow spells he knew. He finally turned, looking around. The sky was wrong. The. The? He wasn't quite sure where he was anymore. But that guy shouldn't be there.
"Dr. Grace?" Billy turned in his seat, getting his feet in front of him, hands bracing behind him, digging into the ground. "But you're? No one's seen you in ages!"
