Me’e Tokotahi Fafine (Danse individuelle femmes) - 2017. Sagato Soane, Mata’utu, ‘Uvea (Wallis)
The Kingdom of ‘Uvea is divided into three districts - Mu’a, Hahake and Hihifo. Ruled by the Lavelua, it is currently a territory of France - so many ‘Uveans can speak both French and Wallisian.
The video shown is the female individual dance from 2017. Danced by Ana Palelei Kolotolu, she won the prize of that year. She hails from Utufua, Mu’a.
As a Tongan, the striking similarity between Wallisian and Tongan goes beyond just recognising familiar words. There are instances whereby Tongans can actually understand what they are saying. This is an example of similarities which make the Pacific so interesting!

The Impact of Uvea & Ocular Inflammation on Vision
Uvea & Ocular Inflammation, often referred to as uveitis, is a serious eye condition that affects the uvea, the middle layer of the eye. This layer comprises the iris (the colored part of the eye), the ciliary body, and the choroid. When the uvea becomes inflamed, it can lead to a range of vision problems and even permanent eye damage.
Understanding Uveitis
Uveitis can occur due to various factors, including infections (bacterial, viral, fungal), autoimmune diseases (such as ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, and inflammatory bowel disease), and even certain medications. The inflammation can manifest in different ways, affecting various parts of the uvea.
Impact on Vision
The impact of uveitis on vision can vary significantly depending on the severity and location of the inflammation. Some common visual symptoms of uveitis include:
Blurred vision: This is a frequent symptom, often caused by inflammation in the iris or ciliary body, which can interfere with the eye's ability to focus.
Eye pain: Inflammation can cause significant eye pain, often described as a deep ache or throbbing sensation.
Floaters and flashes: These are small spots or specks that appear to float in your field of vision, often accompanied by flashes of light. They can be a sign of inflammation in the vitreous, the gel-like substance that fills the inside of the eye.
Redness and sensitivity to light: Inflammation can cause the eye to become red and sensitive to light.
Decreased vision: In severe cases, uveitis can lead to significant vision loss, including permanent blindness.
Seeking Professional Help
If you experience any of these symptoms, it's crucial to consult an eye doctor immediately. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential to minimize the risk of vision loss.
Treatment Options
Treatment for uveitis may include:
Anti-inflammatory medications: Eye drops, oral medications, or injections can help reduce inflammation.
Immunosuppressive medications: In some cases, medications that suppress the immune system may be necessary to control inflammation.
Laser therapy: In certain types of uveitis, laser therapy may be used to treat specific areas of inflammation.
Prevention
While there is no guaranteed way to prevent uveitis, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, managing underlying medical conditions, and avoiding potential triggers can help reduce the risk.Uvea & Ocular Inflammation is a serious eye condition that can have a significant impact on vision. If you suspect you may have uveitis, it's crucial to seek professional help from an eye specialist.
