Sand Walking - Vava'u Islands, Tonga
I'm struggling to articulate this properly but... the way S&Co treated Moran, it keeps reminding me of how Tonga is treated in the Sherlock Holmes canon (which is very dehumanising). I know a lot of Tonga's terrible portrayal and treatment is down to racism, but there are other types of bigotry and prejudice in the canon too, like xenophobia (even in relation to Moran) and this kind of feels like it's still taking influence from that and maybe classism too perhaps, and it's still rubbing me the wrong way in a way I don't quite know how to explain coherently.
I need to think about this properly
(It also feels kind of weird to put something like this in a modern adaptation when they changed Tonga completely, made him a child, made him not a villain, treated him as a proper person, didn't kill him off. Then they go and dump all the dehumanising stuff onto another character and one who is hardly the upper class, probably comes from a privileged background Moran of the canon)
