GHOST IN THE SHELL (1995) dir. Mamoru Oshii
➣ For instance, eagle-eyed viewers might have observed that Major Kusanagi doesn’t blink during Ghost in the Shell. The detail is so minor, but it goes an incredibly long way and perfectly captures Oshii’s desired effect of Motoko feeling “doll-like.” Even without noticing this creepy touch about the character, the detail just creates the feeling of something being off about her. The effect seeps in subconsciously and it’s a rather inspired way to indicate that Motoko is different from regular humans.
