Mr Biden promised a more humane immigration policy than his predecessor Donald Trump, but the US-Mexico border has been engulfed in crisis for much of the Democrat's nine-month-old presidency.
A BBC investigation of the Fort Bliss detention centre in Texas earlier this year found reports of sexual abuse, Covid and lice outbreaks, hungry children being served undercooked meat and sandstorms engulfing the desert tent camps where the young people were being held.
Repost @ctvnews Surveillance video released by U.S. Border Patrol shows a group of people trying to enter Vermont from Quebec by driving across a library lawn and nearly hitting another car on July 4. The Haskell Free Library and Opera house was built straddling the United States-Canada border in the early 20th century. The seven occupants of the vehicle were apprehended and returned to Canada. “Future of the Border” to be Topic of ITGO’s 2019 Logistics Outlook
BUFFALO, NY (October 29) – Buffalo Niagara International Trade Gateway Organization (ITGO) executive director Craig Turner today invited the border-crossing community in the bi-national Buffalo Niagara region to ITGO’s premier event of the year, the 2019 Logistics Outlook: “The Future of the Border,” on Tuesday, October 30, 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the Tonawanda Castle in the City of Tonawanda.
At ITGO’s 2019 Logistics Outlook, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) will provide an in-depth look at technologies that are being implemented right now – and in the near future – to make borders, airports and commerce safer and smarter, supporting the flow of freight and people in the bi-national Buffalo Niagara region.
“Each year, we gather the regional logistics community together for our annual Logistics Outlook, around a topic that is top-of-mind for manufacturers, shippers, carriers and economic development organizations,” said Turner. “With the importance of our border to our regional economy on both sides of it, and with technology changes happening at a more rapid pace than ever before, this is the perfect time to be having this conversation, and we appreciate CBP and CBSA making themselves available to our stakeholders.”
Speakers for the event are:
Colleen M. Manaher - Executive Director CBP/OFO/PPAH Entry Exit Transformation
Rose Brophy - Director, USCBP Field Operations Buffalo, NY
Rick Comerford, Regional Director, S. Ontario Region, CBSA
After the presentations, members of the audience will have the opportunity ask questions in a panel discussion moderated by ITGO Board President James Manno, followed by networking with the logistics, manufacturing and economic development community.
“At the borders and at the airports, the best way to take advantage of new technologies and use them to enhance your experience is to know that they exist, and the purpose for them,” added Turner. “This year’s Logistics Outlook is designed to create that awareness, so companies in the Buffalo Niagara region can optimize their work with U.S. and Canadian Customs and, most importantly, use the new systems to improve their logistics processes.”
More information on the 2019 Logistics Outlook is available at www.itgobuffaloniagara.com/events.
The International Trade Gateway Organization (ITGO) is a collaborative initiative of the public, private and academic sectors to create a globally-known logistics center in the bi-national Buffalo Niagara region. The mission of the Buffalo Niagara International Trade Gateway is to build upon the capacity of existing organizations and leverage the advantages of the region – extensive transportation system, experienced logistics and trade networks, positioning as part of the third largest and fastest growing metropolitan region in North America, and our history and reputation since the nineteenth century – as a center for trade and commerce.
