uruloki sketch based off of a cool fic i read where Bilbo is in fact the reincarnated soul of the Beast of Gondolin (massive dragon!!!) This dragon has no name in tolkien's legendarium, but in the fic she is called Ulugwin the Grey (she's actually grey in this pic i swear) The fic isn't finished but it's really, really good and really well written

... Now People Write Open Letters About Her Evilness.

If Sully hadn't mentioned it in P.M. in passing, I may have never known, but there is an open letter Fluffmugger wrote that has been going on around the fandom for... erm, a few hours, I think, now, and it's mentioning my own self, along with Uruloki if I'm not mistaken, as two examples of harassment against members of the L.R. with the explicit promise that many more may be found.

Since the same person was on my blog not two days ago to distribute slurs and make reasonably disturbing defamation, I wasn't planning on a reply, as we've all already ranted lengthily on the subject for far too long, but on the other hand not mentioning the open letter would feel a bit, to me, like censorship of sorts.

On the other other hand, I don't see how reblogging it as such wouldn't be assimilated to a provocation on my part; and I certainly do not wish for any kind of rapprochement with the L.R., whose ideas I have always found dubious at best, factually incorrect if you prefer—again, we are talking about the L.R. as a group, on a general level, because the L.R. is a group, a movement with its own manifesto: they elected to declare themselves a group with common ground, a common goal and common ideas.

Since the founding act of the movement was the posting of a manifesto, let's have a look at the manifesto, linked above; I'll extract the following points: favouritism on the writers' part, condemnation of Loki for doing the exact same things his father and brother do, Thor is out of character when he gives up on his brother for over a year... all examples that have a certain gift for making the mustard go right up my nostrils. The L.R. was created around the fact that Loki doesn't deserve what happened to him, that he comes from a world of criminals who all betrayed him; this pertains to a discourse we usually refer to as “Apologism” in fandom. The particularity of the “Apologists” is that they choose to ignore canon and the official narrative to rewrite the story from Loki's deluded point of view—in a way, it's perhaps the best homage to the character one could ever make, isn't it?

Only, these are inventions. That word doomed me not so long ago as the non-Apologist side's wicked witch of the west:

“Let’s be honest. One of the sides is almost entirely constituted of people who find it intolerable that someone may disagree with their interpretation of… no, wait, their invention of canon.” (x)

I noticed that Kimmsauce also commented on this and she didn't express much compassion for the L.R. members unjustly accused. Given the broad generalisations she made in there, I propose a motion to depose her from humanity.

The fandom mayn't need white knights that much, in the end, and I'll never be able to shake the feeling that those who find themselves so eager to play that role render themselves guilty of the exact same kind of generalisation they condemn in others; first, they pretend that derisive comments happen in a vacuum, rejecting context as well as any history between bloggers; second, in attacking people on behalf of hypothetical more or less innocent others, acting as juror and judge, they are being just as condescending as they call people like me. And then there's the fact that in the name of freedom of speech, they are trying to shut some people up and down for not talking like they should to certain people.

This is not just censorship. This is bullying. I'm not going to make it an open letter or anything, I'm not interested in dialogue over this, which has happened already countless times, to no real result.

Nevertheless, I rather wanted my followers to see this, especially now that I've got a bunch of new ones. This is a bit of me, see, a collection of thoughts I hold, and even if I don't post only that sort of things, this is a fairly accurate example of how I think, and in the light of recent events, I'd rather warn you. I am a... honest bully, at least? Something like that.
