I know this is a fanfic writer community but I need help finding a fic that I read a while ago
It was a hobbit fic that was Bilbo facing off Smaug when Smaug noticed the ring and took Bilbo to destroy the ring. As they flew to Mordor, Saruman noticed them I think??? It ends with Bilbo throwing the ring into the volcano and Smaug dying???

It Smaug had never taken over Erebor, Thorin would never had developed Dragon Sickness. He would never have lost his home and mass wealth he grew up with, and would never had been overcome with the compulsion to hoard it all. He would have carried on with his âmehâ attitude towards gold, cause he was already used to seeing it everyday.

I love how especially in Rankin Bassâ take Smaug will just rage bait himself. Bilbo barely has to do anything, the dragonâs own paranoia and ego just naturally do it for him.
Smaug can laugh at Bilboâs meagre promise of revenge but the fact that he needs to boast indicates an insult felt that needs to be repaid with a threat. And by the time heâs done his âIâm not even angryâ laugh is has been worked up into an insecure anger that demands validation as Smaug gets tricked into showing his weakness. Itâs followed up by this bafflement leading into rage over a burglar with his cup and then Smaug just loses it.
And for what? Smaug goes outside on a rampage completely and leaves his hoard for the dwarves to claim and gets himself killed picking a fight with people who had nothing to do with it, making a fool of himself over his paranoid assumptions and dying for nothing; All Bilbo gets is a singed coat hem and pants.
