thoughts on dickinson's "i died for beauty" ?
YES!!!! YES!!!!!! what a beautiful poem god! god! some of the most striking imagery in any dickinson poem imo. thereâs so much. the tragedy of a woman like dickinson, never appreciated in her lifetime literarily and whose image has been permanently misrepresented by mabel loomis todd, writing about sharing poetry/ideas and forming connections with people then being forgotten, and a certain peace with that idea. the questions it evokes about whether our legacy and being remembered matters, so long as we connect with others and live/die by whatâs important to us. the equation of truth and beauty! that there is beauty in truth and truth in beauty (again especially with the knowledge of emily as a woman who loved other women and this concept of finding beauty in being honest with yourself!). The fact that these two figures are still able to find one another and speak despite the tomb walls between them, that he can speak softly but it does not change the fact that she can hear him! thereâs so many angles to view it from and details to analyze I find it so gorgeous and quiet and hauntingly lovely.Â
