Why exactly does the Hermes cabin always get portrayed with, like, barely any power? Like I get that Hermes isn’t exactly the most powerful of gods, but Cabin 11 still deserves some love and special quirks, so here are my headcanons.
They’re multilingual! Hermes is the god of languages after all, so most of his kids have a natural grasp of pretty much every language ever spoken. It drives the other campers made when they randomly switch between languages mid-sentence without even realising it, while the other Hermes kids didn’t miss a beat in following the conversation lol.
Random camper: So what were you saying earlier?
Hermes kid: Oh, yeah! So, then ek het haar gevra waarom hän luulisi, että varastin sen pe bí gu̲ts'i ngetho Nunu̲ ar ár xähi. Mi getu'bu̲, anke.
Random camper: ...I’m sorry, what?
All of them are faster than average, and at everything, not just running. You want something done fast? They’re your guys.
Because, to quote Luke, Hermes is ‘jack of all trades, master of none’ Hermes kids are incredibly popular to have on your team for whatever mystery challenge the camp has planned. This is just because whatever it is there’s a pretty good chance they will be at least half-decent at it.
I’m pretty sure this is in canon but as Hermes is god of thieves some of his kids have limited clauditiskinesis wherein they can feel the layout of a lock by touch and so pick it with ease.
ALSO! Hermes is god of merchants so they’re good with money, too, and haggling. You never win a bet against those kids (it’s all in the small print) and if they say to lower your price by £25, you’ll end up doing that and the rest. That ties in to my next point...
Finally, for now, Hermes is often mentioned to be very convincing. I think some of his kids might have this ability, which I imagine to be similar to Aphrodite’s charmspeak, but less magical almost? Like it relies on logic and the facts as well as power. Idk it just seems cool.
Maybe I’ll do this for another god with unexplored powers (unexplored as far as I’m aware anyway as I didn’t read ToA lol). I’m thinking Iris could be fun? We’ll see.
Oh and by the way that bit up there says ‘I asked her why she would think that I stole it but Jack ratted me out because she’s his girlfriend. I was close though’ or something like that in case you were wondering.
