I tried to put the caterpillar back up onto the metal pole, however it just fell to the ground... At first I was going to leave him there, since he’s very well camouflaged, but I didn’t want the chooks to get him.
I put him in a pot plant of a young sapling, and a few hours later, he had climbed up onto the branches.

I’m the kind of girl who falls head-over-heels for even the ugliest looking insects, and I certainly did for this one! Though I can understand why people would think it’s a little gross looking...
This is the caterpillar of an underwings moth. I cannot find the species, however the patterns running down its back are very familiar to me! I’ve certainly seen this caterpillar before (though that species could have been Praxis porphyrtica)
This caterpillar was found on a metal pole, and I don’t know its food source exactly, however there was a young tree nearby that the caterpillar later grew attached to. I’ll check up on the tree in the future ♥
