This is a good way to look at it! It's got a similar implication status to it as -flower and -path, I think - room for potential growth and change.

since randall is using transform in his human form, i'm wondering if it copies *every* trait he has or if some are missing, unable to replicate (like his brown eyes, i'm assuming) or removed on-purpose? i have more questions about this but i think i'm already asking a bit much. any tidbit you're willing to share will satisfy me!
Well, I don't know about things that aren't replicated--There might be little things. But there's something human Randy has, even after becoming a Mew, that Mo didn't know about. :>
Akoya uses it as a trump card to convince him that yes, he is Randall.
I'm still at the beginning of writing the first book of the second arc, but I'm looking forward to writing them interacting in that. Squirrel's a fun one to write as an adult!
first: oh my god
second:
the circumstances of scourge's death feel almost poetic. he was probably used to cats underestimating him due to his size, but firestar was fighting him as though he were the massive dog of his nightmares. i wonder if that contributed to his defeat.
i can't wait to see the fallout of this. you've mentioned wanting to highlight the problems of firestar's ascension to leadership so young, and with the rest of the book to go, unless scourge's more devoted followers stage some sort of revenge, it seems the rest of the book is perfectly suited to explore this.
regardless of what happens next, i am very, very excited, and immensely pleased with what was written so far.
This is such a relief to hear, you have no idea. I say with no exaggeration that this book caused the most panic, stress and preemptive terror of any of the projects I have worked on in my life. I was fully expecting people to get to this chapter and absolutely hate it. I had no faith at all in my work here. It was an extremely mentally and emotionally taxing book.
So your kind words, and the kind words and excitement of everyone else, have brought me a bit of peace over this fuckin' fic and the agony it gave me. I'm still nervous about the future, but the faith you've got in me and in what you've read so far brings me some confidence. Thank you.
i was so very happy to see the oracle! it felt like seeing spottedleaf again, with the way she spoke of the stars, and how she was so easily kind to firestar. i wondered if firestar was going to comment on the similarities, her appearance sure made me feel a bit a rekindled grief for spotted's death. i've never felt that way with a book before, so i just wanted to mention as a kudos to you.
Aww, this is lovely. I've honestly been so uncertain if I should keep bringing Spottedleaf up in these books, because she really only did feature in half of one at the very beginning. But she left such an impact on Firestar as the first dead body he's ever seen, as well as being one of his biggest supporters back when he first joined the Clans. It's a difficult thing. I didn't even know if anyone misses her, outside of the story.
At the very least, we got someone to grieve for her again, which is awesome. Thank you for telling me that.

Lynx found exactly what I was talking about! They're called Precious Moments.
i would like to see the baby (aka can you talk about helpless binary? i love that name)
oohohhh yess.........
most of their functions that were kept up by code degraded over time, and their ancients didn't really. care about it. it never affected them and would've only done so after the mass ascension.
they have to manually manage their functions and stuff, which they can only do because the self-mod taboo also degraded over time to the point where they can modify their own code to fix it. otherwise, when they can't exactly fix anything by themself, one of their citizens - the mechanics kid, seven leaves in an oasis - got left behind and stayed with them, helping them out and learning along the way. eventually when they couldn't stay functional anymore, the mechanic's kid had learned a bunch about bio-engineering and the like from hearing binary infodump about their interests - and offered to make an organic body for them using their own genome, but modify it to binary's own liking.
binary was - hesitant. at first. but it was better than slowly dying to your own code degrading to the point you could no longer function, so they reluncantly accepted it. being the crafty little fuck (/pos) that oasis was, they'd found a way to make it feel nearly the same as hb's puppet.
being transferred to the organic body, binary actually felt much better than they'd ever felt as their whole structure, which was.. odd to them. but they're better off now! off the string baby
