Here’s how our favorite family expands in my universe.
Leonardo and Usagi—These two are strictly a platonic partnership. Both of them are asexual, both sexually and romantically, but they feel platonic bonds exceptionally deeply. Ever since they met, both felt that they had a deep connection. So, not long after the end of the series, they solidified their relationship by making a family commitment to one another.
While Usagi primarily lives with Leonardo, they return to Usagi’s dimension frequently to help settle disputes. The rest of Leonardo’s family said they wouldn’t be offended if he chose to go to Usagi to his world (though they would be heartbroken) but Usagi states he would never ask such a thing and that he enjoys the life they have together.
It was during one of their visits back while helping deal with a despot over a local village that they came upon the two rabbit orphans that would come to be their children.
Raphael and Mona Lisa: Mona Lisa is a member of the triceraton race but specifically an off-shoot, a semi aquatic race. She resembles more a plesiosaur and is an agile and fast warrior in the water.
While on a mission with his brothers to help their friends in the Triceraton Republic deal with some rebellion, Raphael accidentally ran into Mona Lisa. She was an explorer and Raphael helped her to fix her ship and some other weapons. They ended up working together to help squash the rebellion and along the way, had some “fun.”
They aren’t in a committed relationship per ce but they aren’t necessarily looking for others either. Mona Lisa will drop in on Raph semi frequently and he always keeps tabs on where she is. They have a relationship that continues to evolve so who knows where it will end up.
Michelangelo and Renet: This was very much a WTF revelation when Mikey’s brothers found out. How they managed to keep it a secret for two years is anyone’s guess.
Because she's a Timestress, Renet is gone a lot. It's kind of like a military family where a parent is on deployment a lot. But Renet has never missed a birthday, anniversary or holiday. Lord Simultaneous being her uncle probably has something to do with that.
Renet, much like Mikey, mellows out as she ages and once she's around people who validate and support her, a lot of her clumsiness and absent-mindedness goes away. Her self esteem still needs work much like Mikey’s.
She and Mikey have an actual wedding after some time and it was exactly the kind of wedding you would think Mikey would throw —huge, fun and with way too much alcohol.
Donnie is content as a bachelor and finds his new role as Uncle extremely satisfying. Every niece or nephew of his is spoiled. So much spoiling. To an absurd amount sometimes:
“Did you give them a jetpack?!”
“Of course not!…they’re hover packs.”
“Seriously? You've been holding out on us, Donnie!”
“You wouldn't even give us a hovercraft!”
“You're my brothers. They're my niblings.”
Shadow Jones, born when the turtles are around 23-24 or 3-4 years after the end of the series, around 2012. Most likely in October
Casey and April’s first child. She looks like the spitting image of her father: dark hair, blue eyes, muscular build and she’s got too much impulsivity for her own good. For the longest time, April wondered if Shadow got anything from her!
But it turns out, she got her smarts. Shadow is a master at details, at analyzing, at looking over a situation and finding the best response. She’s just not good at using this all the time because she's still learning to slo down. She'll be a strategist in good time but isn't sure what she'd like to be when she grows up yet.
After her parents, she's closest to Uncle Raph.
Koni and Honor: One year younger than Shadow, adopted at age 6, born 2013
Twin rabbit orphans taken in by Usagi and Leonardo.
The boy, Koni, is brown with white tips to the ears (he has lop ears) and the younger of the two. Anxious, unsure but willing to learn. Needs a lot of support and listening ears. He is fascinated by nature and doesn’t see himself as much of a fighter. He’d much rather take notes on animals, plants or bird watch. He prefers to meditate outside or get lost in a romance novel. If it rains, he will sit in the window and watch for hours.
He hates stirring the pot and will rather sit in uncomfortableness rather than speak out.
After his parents, he's closest to Uncle Donnie.
The girl, Honor, is the older and is broken coloring (chocolate, black, tan on white fur). One ear is permanently disfigured and always at a half stand. She wants to follow in her adoptive dads’ footsteps but doesn’t know if she wants the samurai or ninja path. Takes her position as eldest of the next generation very seriously. She is an excellent cook but a bit of a perfectionist. She'll spend more time plating this food than cooking it.
She aims to please but can also be a bit selfish at times (though not purposely) as she struggles to see viewpoints vastly different from her own.
She spends a lot of time with Grandpa Splinter.
Athena: 2 years younger than Shadow, 1 year younger than Koni/Honor, born 2014
Raph’s only child with Mona Lisa a Triceraton off-shoot type alien (more lizard like). It was more of a one time fling than anything though he definitely cares about her. But Mona Lisa is more of a space traveler and not wanting to be tied down anywhere. For this reason, she shows up to Earth, gives Raph a newborn Athena and says “She’s better off here than gallivanting around in space, I’ll drop in occasionally” then was gone before Raph’s brain could fully catch up.
Athena turns out to have the outgoing, aggressive but also loving nature of her father. She is a big challenge for him at times because she requires patience. Lots and lots of patience. Ironically, she has a form of ADHD, which means a lot of the antics Mikey did, she also does.
Most notably, Athena cannot shut up.
Mikey finds it hilarious, Splinter calls it karma.
But Athena loves doing things with her hands. She doesn’t quite have her father’s skill with knitting but she loves carpentry and similar skills.
After her father, she is closest to her Uncle Mikey.
August Janus “January”Jones: Three years younger than Shadow, born 2015
April and Casey’s second kid and first son. His legal name is actually August Jones after April’s Uncle Augie but he felt like he was “stealing” from a family member so he started to go by his middle name “Janus” and when he found out the month of January was linked to his name, he wanted to go by that name. Seemed too much of a hassle to argue. He insists on his full “January” name
He has his father’s dark hair but his mother’s green eyes and much of her more slender build. He’s built for agility and stealth not strength.
It's from his line that we eventually get Cody.
After his parents, he's closest to Uncle Leo.
Marcello, 5 years younger than Shadow, 4 years younger than Koni/Honor, 3 years younger than Athena, born 2017.
Marcello was discovered on one of the turtles’ outings and it's still unclear where he came from. He isn't a mutant but he doesn't appear to be from Usagi’s dimension either. Renet says there's definitely some dimensional energy about him but they haven't been able to pinpoint it. He was barely a baby when they found him and he clung to Mikey and Renet immediately--especially Renet.
He's a rambunctious but cautious kid and is fascinated by all things sci-fi and fantastical. He'll spend hours watching movies if you let him. He adores stories but struggles to read. His family eventually figures out that audiobooks are the way he can engage best and Uncle Donnie gifted him with wireless earbuds connected to an almost endless library.
And if there's anything about Marcello to remember, it's that he's a Mama’s Boy. More than anything, he loves to tag along with “Mama Renet.” He has a bad habit of disappearing when they drop into a timeline to explore and Renet often has to track him down. He, unfortunately, us exceptionally good at the “become shadows” part of his family skills.
He loves to try and find ways to turn things in stories he loves into reality. He doesn't necessarily have the skills to do it himself but he can certainly design it. (He has notebooks full of it).
After his parents, he's closest to Aunt April and Uncle Donnie
Sistine, 8 years younger than Shadow, 7 years younger than Koni/Honor, 6 years younger than Athena, 5 years younger than January, 3 years younger than Marcello, born 2020
And here we have the baby of the family. Sistine was created by Bishop, using some DNA hed obtained from Michelangelo. Luckily, the family learned about it fairy quickly and she was brought home and any spy nanobots were cleansed from her system.
Sistine inherited her father’s flexibility, athletic ability and love for animals. If she's gone to the surface st all, chances are that she's bringing home an animal. The Lair has obtained a bird, two cats, a dog, two guinea pigs and a snake over the years.
But Sistine takes caring for her animals very seriously, to her own detriment at times. She can become very lost in her head when she's with her animals.
She loves painting and her artwork is everywhere--the walls, the floors, Uncke Raph’s motorcycle (he didn't have it in him to scrub ut off), Uncle Donnie’s computer, etc. There have been several conversations had about asking before painting someone else’s things because she sees it as sharing what brings her joy.
Sistine got her father’s ninja talent but not his ADHD. So, she's hands down the most talented ninja of the next generation. Luckily for their enemies, she doesn't like to hurt anyone.
Sistine is a Daddy’s girl through and through and she is ridiculously physically affectionate. This girl gives hugs and kisses all day!
Sistine would consider herself equally close with all her Uncles but Raph in particular finds himself very protective of her (as is Athena).
