Umoonasaurus/Dsungaripterus
Umoonasaurus demoscyllus was a small short-necked plesiosaur, about 2m long (6'6"), that lived in the polar shallow seas covering much of what is now Australia 115 million years ago during the Early Cretaceous.
Its known fossil remains include a specimen nicknamed "Eric", one of the most complete opalized vertebrate skeletons ever found.
While most of its body was fairly generalized for a plesiosaur, its skull was unusually ornamented. A raised ridge along the middle of its snout shows evidence of supporting a larger keratinous crest, and smaller ridges over each of its eyes may have also had similar structures. These crests were fairly delicate so were probably mainly used for visual display, and might have been brightly colored.

Umoonasaurus

I’m starting off Dinovember a little late this year but now that school’s done I finally have the time to just sit down and draw dinosaur, so that’s what I’m gonna do! I didn’t get the chance to do Inktober either so I’m kinda combining the two, so it’s Dinovember but I’m also drawing them with pen and copics, and using the Inktober prompts that @lewisandquark generated using a neural network AI! I find some of the official prompt lists kinda boring but how could you go wrong with prompts like “knife-wrestling scream”, “hidden old man”, “profane words”, and “sqeakchugger”? So without further ado, here are my first four Dinovember/Inktober drawings!
Day 1, Prickly Skeleton: An emaciated carcass of a Sauropelta from the previous dry season lies on the floodplain as the waters of the wet season begin to rise.
Day 2, Water Discovery: A curious Umoonasaurus finds the skull of a megaraptoran hidden in the water weeds. I’m pretty sure I messed up the sizes on this one I’m sorry, but I am proud of the underwater effect!
Day 3, Bone Familiar: A baby Sarmientosaurus stumbles across the huge skull of an adult of its own species. This first set turned out to be very skeleton-heavy.
Day 4, Knife-wrestling Scream: A pair of Alxasaurus battle it out with claws and threat displays. I’m not sure what they’re fighting about but clearly it’s very important.
Okay... But why
