Well we finally made it to the new and improved Aquarium in Joetsu, “Umigatari” or “Tales of the Sea.” Architecturally you can see it is modern and very 21st century. A beauty to walk through, but the kids and I missed our old friend, the “old” Joetsu Aquarium. When I was preparing to come to Japan in 1990, I looked in the almanac for “Joetsu.” (There was no Google in the early ‘90’s, at least for personal consumption). At any rate, the only thing on the map near the town called Joetsu was the aquarium, which I must have visited at least once a year in my 28 years here. Today I missed the wading pools, the electric eels pulsating, the 2 sea turtles, the sea horses, the giant pirarucu from Brazil, the seals, the secret lunch corner, even the “retro” amusement corner with a sometimes- working water pistol game and a submarine “ride.” Well, out with the old, in with the new I guess. #joetsu #memories #notumigatari #umigatari (at 上越市立水族博物館 うみがたり)

Secretively, I sneak a peek. I want your heart. Did I succeed? (I gotta be real indistinct) Please notice me. Notice me please.
Everything’s falling short, by just a hair and Honestly it’s so Unbearable to endure.
I can’t just go and say, “Oh, woe is me” when I’m feeling that way. (Come on, make a bigger deal out of your pain…!)
I know it won’t work to count on temporary means, But my mad urges are overpowering me.
So I ignore all the endless pits of hell I’m trapped in, Trying not to think about what things will surely come in the end…
It took one look. You drew me in. Love at first sight. I was bewitched. All of this time, I had no spine. I’m so sorry. Please.
Retribution surely, all of those tender memories are now Flooding back to suffocate me.
What go up must come down - and so that’s life, so get used to it. (Hold up. That’d be too way scary to permit…!)
Nurturing visions of a fairy tale ending, With the two of us forever happy and laughing,
I must keep creating arguments that end up a stalemate, Just so our true conclusion can be postponed a bit day by day.
How long must I Keep barely passing by, dragging my way on until I come to an end? How long must I Keep living out this lie, “your love,” is it really worth this pain in the end?
I know it won’t work to count on temporary means, Yet this course of action holds all my loyalty. Always harassed by these daydreams of dubious fantasies, Though they’re too good to be true, I will keep hoping.
My head is intoxicated with the thought of you, “Becoming one with you is all I want to do!” And so, dragging my weary legs as I made my way back home, All that I could think about was the happiness you gave to me.
Happiness you gave to me.
Look what we made. We fooled around. But now this past must fade away. Tell me just why it came to life. That’s because I-
