After bonding with his said chosen mate, things turned out much more differently than Hot Rod had hoped. His mate a large, grey war horse with ruby red eyes. The once most feared centaurs in the valley, was no other than Megatron.

Despite being leader of the Decepticon herd and having the ability to choose anyone as his mate. The grey stallion choose Hot Rod, not just for peace between their herds but as well to spite Optimus. However that plan quickly fell apart, when he saw just how depressed the red centaur had become.

There was no point in his plan if his mate wasn't happy and pampered. So Megatron did something he's never done in years, he asked what was troubling the other centaur, instead of demanding for answers.

Hot Rod was surprised by Megatron's genuine concern. For once in a long time someone paused to listen to him. Not brush him off or pushed him to do things he didn't want to do. It brought a smile to his face.

So Hot Rod told the truth. For the rest of the night he opened his heart letting everything spill. About how he never wanted this, to be bonded to a mate he didn't love. To being forced to take over leadership from Optimus when the time came and lastly, being ripped away from his true love and mate, Ultra Magnus.

Megatron just blinked. All these years he had assumed the Auto-bots had been above all those silly old traditions. They surely acted like it when ever they clashed but now, Megatron wasn't so sure. To him it was cruel to force such a burden on such a young centaur, one who clearly didn't want this path towards leadership. And yet that wasn't even the cruellest part to him. Hot Rod deserved to be with his true mate, yet with the peace balancing on their shoulders it would be a problem.

Together they diverse a plan. During the day they will act like a lovely dovely couple. From holding hands while they walked, to gleefully trotting down the meadows and lastly snuggling during the quiet moments in the herd. However when night fell Hot Rod was free to sneak away to meet up with Ultra Magnus. Megatron didn't mind, if Hot Rod was happy so was he. Besides it allowed him to have his own secret rondeau with his own special someone.

For a while it worked. No one was none the wiser. Sadly it doesn't last forever...

During one spring morning a foal joins the herd, and Optimus is furious!
