July/August -- Virtual Hebrew Ulpan
Pre-Covid, I was going to be in Jerusalem right now taking an intensive Hebrew Class at Hebrew U (funded by an International Experience Grant). Instead, I am taking a month-long Ulpan online through Haifa! Back in June the Jewish Studies department sent out an email letting us know about funding for credit-bearing classes and independent research. I obtained a grant of $750 to take this course ($1000), which was amazing!
My course has been challenging, but I’ve definitely learned a lot. I’m going to be taking the Fall semester off, but I plan to continue taking Hebrew. Ideally, I’ll continue taking Hebrew at Umass with the same Professor I took it with last semester. My Professor, Ofir, was an amazing teacher. I’ve always struggled with languages, but he explained everything in a way that made sense (I’ve actually been using some of the handouts he made for us during my ulpan). Right now, we’re talking about what level I should take next, which is very exciting!
After the exciting holiday season, I finally got to go back to my Hebrew class (Ulpan)!! We finished up the first chapter of our book and are moving on to more challenging material next week!
I took two semesters of college Hebrew during my time in undergrad and I never felt the same confidence in those classes as I do in this class. The teacher is very supportive and answers all questions we have.
To help reinforce my learning (since this class is only once a week) I use Duolingo. I am currently on an 8 day streak and hope to keep it up so I can keep learning and growing! Duolingo is an app that I 100% recommend if you’re trying to learn a new language. You can also use their sister app, Tiny Cards, to reinforce vocabulary through digital flash cards.
Can’t wait to learn even more Hebrew!
No matter how daunting Hebrew learning feels, trust me - with the right method and guidance, succeeding in Hebrew is just a step away.
Here's the thing – I’m not here to just teach you Hebrew; I’m here to help you thrive in it! 🎯
My specialty is guiding you past all the pitfalls English speakers face when learning Hebrew. One way I do it?
I’ve separated reading and writing from speaking and understanding, allowing you to focus on the skill you're eager to thrive in first (or only). Forget about tackling everything at once. With my methods and guidance, you can become fluent without knowing a single letter in Hebrew if that sounds like a dream to you!
No more fitting your schedule to someone else's or taking on Hebrew alone with no one to ask questions. 🤷♂️
Learn to read and write, or speak and understand, or both - following my proven path. ✅️
I break everything down into simple, practical steps tailored for English speakers. 🇺🇸🇬🇧 > 🇮🇱
Focus on the Hebrew you’ll actually use, making it relevant and rewarding.
See incredible progress from the get-go, keeping you motivated for the long run.
I've had the pleasure of helping thousands of English speakers thrive in Hebrew, and I'm here to remind you that you can too! 👈👩💻
It's all about the method and the guide. Having the best of both leads you to success.
✍️ Comment "SPEAK" if speaking and understanding is your goal, or
✍️ Comment "WRITE" if reading and writing is your immediate focus.
. P. S. Somewhere between pasta and rice "Israeli Couscous" - known as פתיתים in Hebrew - was developed in Israel in the 1950s when rice was hard to come by! In 1953, Israel's 1st Prime Minister David Ben Gurion asked Eugen Proper, one of the founders of the now well-known Osem food company, to come up with a wheat-based substitute for rice. Proper developed פתיתים which is made out of hard wheat flour and toasted in an oven.
Fun Fact: Ptitim is sometimes called "Ben Gurion Rice" and is not even a type of couscous!

The warm relationship developing between Israel and UAE and Bahrain has led to a rise in the number of businesspeople in the Gulf learning Hebrew online.
Maysoon Hameed comes home from work as a vice president of an Emirati bank, spends time with her family – and then begins a 90-minute live Hebrew class online.
“After the UAE signed [the Abraham Accords] with Israel, there are a lot of investment opportunities” for both sides, Hameed tells ISRAEL21c.
