Muichiro wakes with a shout, the taste of blood lingering sickeningly in his mouth. The youth can’t help the almost painful heaving of his chest, nor the gag that slips out when the metallic taste becomes so overwhelming that images from his nightmare flash through his mind again. He struggles to breathe, instinctively reaching out for the glass of water that Giyuu often leaves for him. The rim clinks harshly against his front teeth, but he pays the ache left behind no attention. He doesn’t even notice the uncontrollable shaking of his hands while he tips back the contents as fast as he can to wash away the phantom blood in his mouth. Muichiro ends up swallowing the water wrong in his rush — Wheezing coughs tumble out of him, followed shortly by tears. He clamps a hand over his mouth, still coughing with a death grip on the glass, and hopes that he hasn’t woken up the Water Pillar with his noise.
