The Beatified Ones
¹ Blessed are those who are of the towns, who know not the land they owe! ² They will say, “One day, I will leave this country and never turn back!” ³ Thus, they run away with hope in their grasps, ⁴ but they have never been told by their begetters thus: “When you grow old like me, you must return to your pogun. Tend to the soil, do not abandon the plants, do not muddy the rivers; for you would not have been without it.” ⁵ How blessed they are, for they think that they do not breathe Her breath, to not recognize it as their Mother’s own!
⁶ Blessed, then, are the self-isolated, who know not the people with whom they grow! ⁷ They will say, “They have mistreated me, and do not deserve my presence!” ⁸ Thus, they cut themselves off from their neighbours out of affliction, ⁹ but they have never been told by their begetters thus: “Do not wait to grow old like me to provide to those of like fate. Seek the labourers, listen to the oppressed, fight the exploiters with those who are exploited; for you are naught without them.” ¹⁰ How blessed they are, for they think that the community does not breathe the same breath, to not recognize that they are the lungs!
