Hey here’s what you’ve missed out this week in Singapore (unless you went to the general market, then YOU-GO-GLENN-CO-CO). Last Saturday (28 Dec), I headed down to Gillman Barracks for The General Market at the U-Factory presented to you by Tyrwhitt General Company and The U Factory. For those of you who are new to Gilman Barrack, that’s the place where the legendary Ramen Burger can be found in this little island (That’s not the point). The U-Factory, is a platform curated by Underscore, an award winning independent magazine with content that carefully curates the best artists and designers in Singapore.Â
There were numerous workshops and talks down at The General Market. Crafters and designers alike line up at the pop-up store and as you can see in the pictures, I went berserk when I saw the Fabrix cases and carry-all tote bags. The Organisation of Illustrators Council set up their very own DreamInk, where many illustrators in Singapore gather to draw and sketch. I particularly love their sound inspiration room. I wished I took more pictures, but basically, it was a room with colourful speakers you can plug your playlist into.
Overall, The General Market was an awesome experience for any aspiring young artist or designer. You get to rub shoulders (unless you’re shy) with people like Michael Mindflyer, Jerry Goh, and Pat Law just to name a few.
