Learning Support Services During Finals Week Learning Support Services is offering one-hour writing appointments with their skilled writing tutors during finals week. Withdraw From a Class- Deadline Wednesday November 3rd

If you are struggling in a class due to extenuating circumstances, withdrawing from a class with a "W" grade may be a good option. For more information about withdrawing from a class, including questions about financial aid, GPA, academic progress, and instructions on how to withdraw from a class using MyUCSC, please review UCSC's withdrawing from a class website. If you have additional questions, your college advisers are a great resource. The deadline to withdraw from a class is Wednesday, November 3rd.

Please note that due to student visa regulations, international students may not be eligible to withdraw from a class, if doing so prevents them from completing 12 credits for the quarter. International students are encouraged to discuss their options with International Student Services by contacting [email protected]

Advising Week is Almost Here! November 5-11

It's almost time to prepare for winter quarter enrollment!

Winter 2022 classes will be available in UCSC's Class Search on Friday, November 5. Details about Winter 2021 enrollment appointments will also be available November 5th, and accessible through the "Academics" tile of your MyUCSC account. For more detailed information about your enrollment appointments and UCSC's two-pass enrollment system, refer to the Enrollment Appointment Tutorial, and the Registrar's Enrollment FAQ.

Your college and major advisers are great resources during advising week to answer any questions you have about enrollment or choosing classes. Many college and major advising office host events during Advising Week, so keep an eye out for those as well.

Three Year Pathways Info Session- Wednesday November 10, 10am via zoom

Learn about UCSC's Three Year Pathways, and determine if these accelerated paths to your UCSC degree are a good fit for you.

The intended audience for this event is first and second year students who are interested in possibly finishing their UCSC degree in three rather than four years. Visit UCSC's Three Year Pathways website, to learn more about the program and participating majors. See you at the info session!

Grade Change deadline- November 28

Students are able to change their grading option for a class between letter grade and pass/no-pass until the end of week nine of the quarter (November 28). We highly encourage students to consult with their academic advisors about changing their grading option especially for major or major qualification courses.

UCSC Summer Session Enrollment is Live!

Remote Summer Session enrollment is open. To enroll in summer classes: log on to my.ucsc.edu and add summer classes to your cart like you would the rest of the year.

Students eligible for Financial Aid should review the summer Financial Aid information and use their calculator to get an estimate.

Tuition is $279 per credit, plus the $305.96 campus fee. Visit the Tuition and Fees page for more details.  

Ambitious Summer Discount! Students who complete 15 credits or more receive a $680 discount on tuition.

A limited number of Summer Session students have the option to live on campus. Visiting the summer housing page for details.

APRU's Global Health Case Competition- submissions due June 11

Interested in Global Health? How about $1,000?

A Global Health Case competition, through the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) is open now. For this international, virtual competition, teams of 4-6 students will receive a challenge relating to a pressing global health problem. Teams will be given up to ten weeks to prepare a video of up to 10 minutes in English proposing a realistic, well-designed, innovative solution to the challenge. Teams will save their videos on YouTube or Vimeo and submit the link via email for judging by an international panel of APRU Global Health Program members and other global expert judges. Major Exploration Workshop- Monday Feb 8, 4-5pm

Attend this workshop to learn tips and strategies for finding the major that is the best fit for you at UCSC. The event includes reflection activities as well as an overview of UCSC resources. Silver Slug Scholarship- Application Due Feb 17

If you are a UCSC staff member or the dependent of a staff member, apply for the the Retirees Association Silver Slug Scholarship!

Students who qualify for this award are career staff as defined in personnel policies and dependents of career staff as defined by financial aid regulations. (The career staff category does not include students in work-study positions.) You must be enrolled in an academic degree program at UCSC and be in good academic standing. Those who have received the award in the past may apply again, and if you have applied but not received the award you should apply again (unless you were notified that you were not eligible). The award amount is up to $2,000.

The scholarship application deadline is February 17. The application form is available at a link on https://retirees.ucsc.edu/scholarships/ silverslugaward/index.html.

UCSC Learning & Development, is excited to announce the arrival of LinkedIn Learning on the UC Santa Cruz Campus! LinkedIn Learning is an award-winning industry leader in online training, with a digital library of over 10,000 courses covering a wide range of technical, business, software and creative topics. Accessible 24/7 from your desktop or mobile device, visit LinkedIn Learning by logging in through your UCSC credentials. You may watch an entire course, or individual videos – some are as short as four or five minutes. You will be able to bookmark courses that suit your interests, keep track of the courses you have taken, and when you complete a course, you’ll receive a certificate. Finals Week Information

The end of fall quarter is approaching, as finals week is scheduled Dec. 14-18. With finals just around the corner, please review Final Exam Policies, and confirm your Final Exam Schedule for Fall 2020. It's also a good idea to confirm final exam assignments and information in your course syllabi, and contact your instructors if you have questions or need clarification about final exam scheduling or format. Learning Support Services During Finals Week

Learning Support Services offer writing and math support during finals week. 45-minute Individual Writing Appointments begin on Sunday, December 13. Writing appointments are available for all upper-division and lower-division writing courses including: Writing 2 and writing across all disciplines such as in History, Legal Studies, Politics, Film, Psychology, etc. Undergraduates can sign up for 45-minute writing tutoring appointments with a tutor on TutorTrac to work on a plan to strengthen their writing assignment. Individual Math Tutoring: Starts Tuesday, December 15th-Thursday December 17th for the following courses: MATH 2, 3, 11A, 11B, 19A, 19B, 22, 23A, and 23B and other lower-division courses that may include math. Students can sign up for 45-minute individual appointments on TutorTrac to work with a tutor to understand concepts and word problems in preparation for final exams.Appointments need to be reserved within a 24 hour period before the start of the session.

These services are available to all undergraduate UCSC students and are provided at no cost to students. If you have any questions about the services, please contact LSS at [email protected].

2021 Summer Session Courses Launch Dec. 11

Plan for summer this winter at summer.ucsc.edu. Starting December 11, courses are searchable on the summer website by department or by general education requirement. Bookmark the continuing student guide or visit the Summer Session virtual office anytime to schedule a Zoom.

Peer Enrollment Support Continues Through Thursday, Dec 10

As enrollment for Winter 2021 continues, Peer Coaches are available M,W from 3-5pm and TTh 11-1pm this week to troubleshoot enrollment issues, and assist in class selection.

Please note that you must be logged into zoom with their UCSC accounts to join the session. The zoom environment is set-up so that will enter into a waiting room, and peer coaches will offer one-on-one assistance on a first-come, first-served basis. At any time, there will be between three and five peer coaches available at a time to help students.

The list is viewable to anyone logged in to their UCSC email, and will be updated to reflect any changes to course details.

Have you been affected by enrollment holds? If so, please apply to the Enrollment Holds working group. Enrollment holds have a serious effect on our campus community, as they can cause stress and halt academic progress. The Enrollment Holds working group is looking to address concerns about how enrollment holds are used, how they affect students, and explore alternate solutions. During Spring Quarter, the working group will present their findings to the SUA Vice President of Academic Affairs.

This working group will meet about eight times over the course of Fall and Winter Quarter. This position will pay $15/hr per meeting. Please apply at https://sua.ucsc.edu/committees/scoc/how-to-apply.html.

A reminder that the deadline to make changes to your class schedule via your MyUCSC Student Center is Wednesday, October 21. This includes adding, dropping, or swapping classes and editing the details of your class schedule. Remember that at this point in the quarter, permission numbers are required to join a class.

Wednesday, October 21 is also the deadline to apply to be an official part-time student. Details about the part-time program, including eligibility criteria and fees can be found here.

Welcome new and continuing students!

A warm welcome to new UCSC students, as well as our continuing banana slugs! We hope you've had a good summer (given the circumstances) and are feeling refreshed for the academic year. A few reminders for the start of fall quarter: • Update your address, phone, and emergency contact info on the MyUCSC Student Center.

• Verify and review your class schedule via your MyUCSC Student Center page. Double check your enrollment, confirm your grading options, and check for any changes in class details.

Remote Learning Resources- Keep Learning

Be sure to check out UCSC's Keep Learning website to review the many resources and services that are available to ensure successful remote learning. The website includes a section on tips and strategies for learning in a remote setting. Keep checking the Keep Learning site throughout the quarter, as it is updated with new information and resources as they become available.

Fall enrollment reminders & deadlines

A reminder that the deadline to make changes to your class schedule via your MyUCSC Student Center is Wednesday, October 21. This includes adding, dropping, or swapping classes and editing the details of your class schedule.

Please note that starting October 10, a permission number is required to add classes. Permission numbers are given out at the discretion of the instructor/department, and it's important to attend desired classes during the first week of instruction  and communicate early with instructors about joining a class. Students should attend any waitlisted classes during the first week of instruction, and communicate with the instructor about their enrollment status. For questions about enrollment and waitlist, check out the Registrar's FAQ's. Wednesday, October 21 is also the deadline to apply to be an official part-time student.
