Summary:

John works in the Starbucks on Myrtle Street in Liverpool and Paul comes in for coffee. They fall in love via email exchange and everything is wonderful.

Why I like this fic:

John's humour in this fic is *spot on* and Paul is so wonderfully written too, they're so totally true to themselves and the author has somehow melded the wonderful reality of them with the present day. Even only halfway through the first chapter I was grinning like a lunatic and falling in love with this 'verse then kept thinking of it all through work. It makes me want to live in the Myrtle Street branch until they walk in. ❤️

Why I like this fic:

Annoying ex Stu. John having an existential crisis in the bathtub. Sexy cop Paul. Petty revenge plot. Fake relationship. Cute boys in a meet-cute. Smutty. What's not to like??

Why I like this fic: I just love how they're characterised, but I also love the story. The authors love to put John and Paul in Situations and it's wonderful to read. Be careful this is very explicit. Be careful even more because this is Not Finished, but with your help and kudos maybe my email inbox won't stay empty next year? Who knows? Just saying, it's been a while and I still think about this fic 💟

Why I like this fic:

Because it's everything I love in a fic - rivals/enemies who doth protest too much, obsessed boys who are the only people oblivious to their obsession, sexual tension that is unresolved just long enough to make it deliciously excruciating, excellent smut that we deserve after all that pining, fist-biting angst that feels incredibly real and never melodramatic, and a wonderful and satisfying ending

Why I like this fic:

Rec for the October-Halloween theme! I love how far this fic takes the Vampire trope to explore John and Paul's relationship more deeply, including the things that ultimately kept them apart (but there is a lot of passion and tenderness too!). The ending, while dark, is very satisfying, and to me it was unexpected and precisely right. The tags are actually pretty accurate and helpful in summarizing this unique fic, so don't rely on me — go over there to check it out!

Why I like this fic:

Because of the format (found sources, articles, diaries, tapes), the happy marriage of humor and horror, and the absolutely stellar writing: each voice sounds real and true. And the images...! More than once, I was caught between laughing and thinking no no no NOOOO! Despite the insane prompt, this feels like quite an accurate and canon-faithful Beatles fic on some level. Give it a try!

Summary:

In the summer of 1991, John Lennon was 17 years old and ready for the time of his life playing in his shitty metal band, chasing older girls, and flipping burgers, but the arrival of a mysterious younger boy from London would change life as he knew it.

Twelve years later, it seemed like Paul McCartney's life had finally reached the kind of normalcy he'd always craved; he has a job as a session musician for Abbey Road Studios, he's about to marry up-and-coming TV star Jane Asher, and has the best friends in the world. Unfortunately, it seems the rearrival of an old friend from Liverpool is going to throw a wrench into all of that.

Why I like this fic:

This is a beautifully-written AU which brings the boys together for one magical summer then follows up with them years later. I think the author must be a musician because the descriptions of playing live and in studio are the most realistic I've read. The Hellcats' setlists are a lot of fun :)

A beautiful slow burn with many great characters outside of the two, both canon and OCs. Even though it's unfinished, the arc of the story is partially completed so the agony of being cut off from the resolution isn't as acute as it could be (it's still tough though!)

I really like the 90s-2000s setting for nostalgic reasons, and it's delightfully described - who knew old nokia phones could be so evocative? <3
