In which we get the story of what happened with Rong Xuan and Wen Kexing is acting suspiciously different from his usual self.

- Number of times in that novel we’ve been told A-Xu’s waist is very flexible: 6 (at least - I started the count too late to be sure if there isn't more)
- Poor Chengling got thrown and swung around like a sack of potatoes. I know the situation’s dire and you’re both fighting but please T_T
- Also, A-Xu WHY ARE YOU RUNNING AROUND LIKE THAT YOU’RE WOUNDED
(I know, I know same as above, they’re fighting their way through the Puppet Manor and he’s not going to sit still but hell)
- Chapter 50 is called “the key” and my brain went “THE key?”. I was starting to wonder if there even was a key in the novel since no Armory had been mentioned, but I guess if they somehow put things into the Liuli Jia then a key is not that surprising.
- Zhou Zishu elbowing Wen Kexing to shut him up and Wen Kexing not daring to dodge it, probably because Zhou Zishu was still leaning onto him.
- Wen Kexing was being SO annoyed at Ye Baiyi that he actually put Zhou Zishu down and passed him to Chengling so he could go fight the old man
- gdshdh Wen Kexing asking Long Que (just like he did in the drama) :
“That...Yin Yang Manual, can it really save the life of someone whose meridians have been severed?”
… because of course, that’s the thing foremost in his mind.
And then :
Upon hearing this, Zhou Zishu was stunned for a moment. He raised his head, and his gaze coincided with Wen Kexing’s. Suddenly, he felt a warmth in his chest--unbelievably, there was someone who constantly kept an injury that even the Great Shaman of Nanjiang had shaken his head at and deemed hopeless in their thoughts. Why bother doing so? […] Could it be that...this person was actually sincere?
Took you long enough to understand, stupid (affectionate)
- And at the end of the chapter, Wen Kexing says he’ll stay for a while, as a sendoff for Long Que, and asks Zhou Zishu to stay with him “to recuperate from [his] injury” and Zhou Zishu dismisses it.
Only when Wen Kexing asks him to “treat it as spending a few days here with [him]” does he agree.
Did I mention they were stupid ? They’re stupid your honor. I love them your honor.

In which Zhou Zishu is quite vulnerable and Wen Kexing acts like his usual shameless self.

Svabsjsjshagsgksjs that chapter
- I squeaked in a very weird way when we were told that Wen Kexing took one look at the scene, tossed Chengling out of the puppet's reach, then grabbed Zhou Zishu in a bridal carry and booked it out of the hallway. Didn't even try to fight the puppets. Just...saw a badly hurt A-Xu and was having none of any distraction until they were somewhat safer.
- Wen Kexing being so gentle, so careful when moving Zhou Zishu because of how hurt he was. So, so careful when he used his qi to help him heal because it was the first time he wasn't using it to hurt or kill and he was terrified of harming A-Xu even more. I’m unwelllll.
And Zhou Zishu, again, in such a poor state he doesn't even put up a fight. Or a front, for that matter.
That entire conversation was unhinged they are such freaks.
“What lowlife manners, taking advantage of others’ misfortune.”
And then Wen Kexing says it’s his “perk” for healing him 🤦
Zhou Zishu answers he doesn’t plan on selling his body for the moment.
And Wen Kexing’s response to this is to casually mention rape is a thing. And to remind him he is in no state to defend himself.
To which, half-dead Zhou Zishu goes:
“Your spirits are too high.”
[okay. Just fucking try]
Wen Kexing: shuts up. Stares at him; then lets him go and sits still for a while.
- I am… unsure I got why Wen Kexing channelled into his palm and loomed over Zhou Zishu like that right after he thought back about what Wuxi had said regarding being able to save him if he got rid of his martial arts. Was he contemplating taking his martial arts? Is that even possible??
But A-Xu wasn’t sleeping so he caught him and, despite Wen Kexing not answering when he asked what he was doing, he probably knew what was on his mind because his next sentence is:
"Others don’t understand, but do you not as well?"
And Wen Kexing punches a hole in the floor, saying in a half-convinced voice, that he understands. And he does understand, he just wishes he didn't, because it would have been so much easier. Otherwise, he would have gone through with it, Zhou Zishu was not in a state to keep him from it.
- Of course Wen Kexing would say he could carry him. In his arms, even. And, of course, Zhou Zishu is like “nope”, trying to pretend he’s fine again after a short rest. (Spoiler : he’s not)
- They picked up grumpy grandpa Ye Baiyi again and Wen Kexing was purposefully pretending he didn’t know it was him so he would have an excuse to fight him. He’s so petty I love him.
- The narrative is really making sure we know in how bad a state Zhou Zishu is. The “I am always fine” guy was leaning against the wall and not protesting – aside from a small “Have I been crippled?” – when Wen Kexing helped him walk with an arm around his waist and the other over his shoulders.
- They found someone who’s not a puppet. Oh dear who could that possibly be? ~
Reading TYK – Chapter 46 (“Misfortune”) and 47 (“Puppet”)
In which the entire Manor turns out to be a cunning adversary

I lost some of my notes for chapter 46 before I could put them on here :( so not much about it and more about the next one.
“If your shifu’s no longer around in the future, who knows, I might want to find a place like this to hide away in. Otherwise, if I go out and see beautiful people milling about the streets, and yet can never find that one beauty who's the best fit for what my heart desires, won't I be very sad?”
The fact that he said that knowing full well Zhou Zishu is slowly dying makes it sound very different than the joke some might think he’s doing here.
- I am a bit disappointed that Wen Kexing did not fall onto the same place Zhou Zishu did, but Zhou Zishu was busy saving Chengling.
- I did not expect the giant mechanical snake.
- I love how this story is repeatedly making a point to both show and tell us that Zhou Zishu's waist is very flexible. I should have started a count of those I'm fairly sure it happened at least 4 or 5 times.
- Okay the Puppet Manor is terrifying and the descriptions do make that come across quite well.
- Zhou Zishu is being relieved to see Wen Kexing for the first time ever and honestly, so am I. Yes I know he isn't going to die there or anything but I was still stressed out for some reason. But it does say a lot about how bad a state he was in that he would think that. Also, it implies he now sees Wen Kexing as trustworthy – at least enough to be relieved to see him rather than the opposite.

In which Zhou Zishu being a very grumpy shifu because he was woken by his disciple who couldn’t sleep

- Zhang Chengling feeling that his father and Zhou Zishu are “different, and yet the same sort of person”. I adore that kid.
- gdghasdh Wen kexing coming and draping a coat over Zhou Zishu as he was sitting outside. I love when characters do that sooooo much.
- I needed one line :
“Does it hurt?”
to know what kind of conversation they were going to have. The setting is quite different from what it was in the show and it’s much, much shorter. I have to admit I’m slightly disapointed. BUT ! I noticed that Wen Kexing wasn't drunk, contrary to when this line was spoken in the show.
But yes, yes of course it hurts. But he's not going to admit it.
- Zhou Zishu not moving away or pushing him back in the slightest when Wen Kexing, opened his robes, saw the nails, and fastened the robe again without a word but obviously shook anyway.
“Can you not die on me?”
I’m unweeeell
“Is that something I have a say in?”
Well, yes. Somewhat. It’s complicated.
- Chengling’s dream in life before his entire family got killed was so sweet ?? Poor kid :(
They’re going to the Puppet manor ! I’m sure nothing will happen there and everything is going to be fine.
