really, thank you for that spirk/spuhura post. you articulated things i’ve been feeling for a long time. i was upset recently about the lack of queer representation in media, as a queer person in a relationship with a straight man. i was trying to explain to my boyfriend that, try as we might, we won’t be getting a queer disney princess, a queer james bond, a queer shonen protagonist, etc, for a very long time. and he didn’t quite understand how “spirk is basically canon” and things of (1/2)
that short feels so incredibly dismissive. like, i should be satisfied with the implication. i’m not. i just want hollywood to understand that being gay isn’t a tragedy, and you can put gay characters in your movies and it doesn’t have to be a huge deal about how their parents disowned them or whatever. anyway, you post really helped my boyfriend understand what i meant, and it was so cathartic to see something thinking the same or similar things. thank you.
