Two years ago on this day, I surrendered. I admitted for the first time to myself, my family and friends, and my higher power that I am a drug addict and alcoholic; I didn’t want to believe it, but the situation I had gotten myself into made myself powerless. Looking back, the events that happened were a blessing; they helped shape and mold me into the person I am today and I now get to share my experience, strength, and hope with others— I am living proof that even when one feels like they are going down a dark path, there is light at the end of the tunnel. I celebrated my 2 years of sobriety!!!!!! So much has changed in my life since i finally decided to get sober. I went from being pretty much homeless and staying wherever and with whomever I could to having my own house with a beauty studio. I was shooting up to a gram a day of heroin and meth. My body was dying slowly. I weighed only 100 lbs when I entered treatment. I had nothing left to give. I was suicidal and sick. I have gained my life back. I have gained so much back. It hasn't been easy, no but its been worth it! Just this last week I was paid to attend a leadership course in my states capitol for work. Something I never would have thought would happen to me. I love what my life has become. I wouldnt change a single part of my story though. Even though some parts definitely hurt and caused pain. Its part of who I am and what has made me ME! It you are struggling or know someone who is struggling, please just reach out to someone. That's all it took for me. I just needed to give up the control. It all changed from there. There is a light at the end of the tunnel and it will be the most brilliant bright light youve ever seen. It just takes that first thought that you are tired and sont want to do it anymore. I'm NOT judge mental and I WILL NOT try to push any twelve steps or recovery on you if you dont first want it. January 28, 2014 The day I stopped drinking. January 28, 2016 Two years without a single drop of alcohol. Today I celebrate. These past two years have not be easy. But I want to encourage anyone who may be struggling with an addiction. You are more then your battle. You are loved and cared about so deeply. I would encourage you to find a good strong support system that will keep you accountable for your actions but will walk with you in your valley. Someone that will show grace when needed and tough love when necessary. There are times when I still feel an urge to drink. But I know God has delivered me from that. He has blessed me with an amazing support group. So here is to you- Thank you to my mama, dad and brother for standing along side me, allowing me to pour out my heart and listening when I needed you the most. To my amazing boyfriend for showing me tough love and walking beside me in my darkest hours. And to my friends and family who have shown unconditional love and support, no matter how close or far apart we may be. My words can not express how thankful to God I am for each and every one of you. Here's to many more years of healthy living and amazing memories.
