#twowaystowear Tuesday, all you Dappled Little Things...how are you feeling about color pairing thus far? . . For the past two days, I've shared some of my favorite ways to choose colors in order to create a color-blocked look; while you might find pairing colors daunting, perhaps if you understood a little more about the process, you may find it easier to do! . . Color-Blocking by the Numbers -okay, so you're picking colors, using the color wheel, and following the pairing rules, but there is still one more thing to know: the percentages! Even if you choose the perfect color combination, your look may still be visually overwhelming: to reduce the visual contrast, while ensuring the pieces you've chosen complement and don't compete with each other, vary the proportion of color in the pieces you chose to pair. . . In the case of this fabulous green jumpsuit: with such an amazing cut (wrap front, flutter sleeves, dramatic hem) and color, I wanted it to be the main focus of my outfit; from my shoulders to shins, it covers about 70% of my body, so I had 30% more color to add. . . The jacket offers about 25% more color: it's a shorter length and the sleeves only reach mid-way down my forearm (I chose to wear the jacket open as not to reduce the overall percentage of the jumpsuit). . . With 95% of the color in my outfit accounted for, the remaining 5% I saved for my belt; although quite skinny (small in width), the rich cobalt blue is a large jolt of color (I ignored the shoes in the math because the floral pumps had varying shades of the green jumpsuit, the acqua-teal jacket, and blue belt, tying all three pieces together!). . . #twowaystowear Tuesday and I'm showing you three ways to wear open-toed booties (and yes, I do own these beauties in black with the gold grommets)!😳 . . Look No. 1: A warm day in winter; I styled a woolen camel vest as a dress, belted it with a fanny pack, and wore a leopard trench (to cover the back vent of the vest and) to add visual interest to my ensemble. The booties brought out a minor color in the coat. Look No. 2: Transitioning to Spring; I styled separates as a dress and hid the juncture between them with a belt bag. The cropped trench completed the look. The neutral booties don't detract from the monochromatic effect! Look No. 3: Transition Wear; I first wore this outfit to a class reunion, on an autumn evening, with my black leather moto. The booties highlight the minor blue color in the dress, as does the belt. I like the black for later-in-the-day looks, and I'm thinking I should have featured a white denim jacket (not with this dress) instead for my transitional outerwear series. 🤔 Shopping Tip: I love fashion, and I love a bargain; I especially love where the two intersect! When I manage to find a style of shoes (or clothing) that really speaks to me, I tend to go a little overboard with my purchasing. Why? I love the styling options I have with each (even if at the time I buy them, I'm not sure how I may style a particular color). My mantra: Buy the shoes now, and the outfit will come! . . #twowaystowear Tuesday, and I'm giving you a Spring and Autumn way to wear a cropped trench in an amazing color. . . In yesterday's post, I told you that since 'Transition Season' happens twice a year, I utilize the same same outerwear and footwear, but just style them differently. . . For the Spring: I try to take advantage of every warm moment in the sun; midi and maxi dresses from previous seasons are brought into a springtime rotation. To stave of the cool mornings, chilly evenings, and over eager air conditioning, I don outerwear that I can remove (and sometimes store, depending where I am) as the temperature rises. . . For the Autumn: At the first hint of fall, I'm ready to put on my cool weather favs; I like to think of my outerwear as an extension of my outfit (a 3rd piece) -I try to co-ordinate each piece (as I do in the Winter) to give my ensemble a truly autumnal look. . . Styling Tip: Dress for the warmest part of the day! You can layer up in the morning, and de-layer as the day warms, but if the weather changes (which it often does in the Spring and Autumn), you'll still be warm enough to tackle the rest of the day, and look good doing so! . . #twowaystowear Tuesday, and I'm giving you two ideas for a plaid blazer (blue). . . Blazers are having a moment, and over the past few seasons, plaid blazers have really come into their own. . . In keeping with my #printmixing series, the first look, is the blazer and skirt worn together as a suit. Wondering how to update your blazer style? Belt it with a sleek, leather #fannypack. A striped tie-neck blouse add visual interest to the suit, while white patent booties complete the ensemble. . . In the second way to wear a plaid blazer (that comes with a skirt or one you've found by itself), try pairing it with another plaid piece in a similar hues (in this case, both the blazer and the pant have black, white and blue details). . . Feeling adventurous? Try adding another print or two, like a blouse in a foulard print and/or scarf in a floral design. I intentionally chose smaller prints as not to detract from the plaid pieces. . . Styling Tip: I belted the blazer in this look, because I didn't want my waist to get lost beneath the bulky, bomber jacket. . . Color Wheel Tip: If you're ever stuck with which color to pair with a particular piece, go back to the color wheel! With the various shades of blue in the outfit, I went with a green jacket (blue and green are analogous colors); I specifically chose the olive shade because the deeper tones are a sophisticated choice to your color palette. . . Trend Alert: When looking to buy a blazer, the boxier the better! Think 80s-style: padded shoulders and an oversized silhouette. Try it with biker shorts and sneakers for a on trend day look, or pair it with a slip dress and floss sandals for an effortlessly chic evening look. . .
