Marek looked at the young man with the bullet wound he had found before. He could tell this man was a pirate but he actually couldn’t care less about that. In fact it didn’t make any difference to him who he was helping, even though he was a marine. Pirate or not, this man was still a person and an injured one at that, and therefore Marek felt obliged to help.

It wasn’t easy to get a grip of the bullet, especially not with the gloves Marek had put on, but luckily he had quite slender fingers.

“Okay, hold still. This is going to hurt.”

Marek took a deep breath and with an abrupt tug he pulled the bullet out. Setting it aside he started to clean and bandage the wound. When he was finished, he looked at the other man again.

He was back. But Shan still felt the fear and the cold when Troy had captured them. And he didn’t leave them unscarred. There were still aching marks where he whipped them. The thin scars of the blades Troy used to slice into their arms and face. The bruises that turned purple on Shan’s skin where he was beat down like a dog.

He sat there, shuddering at the memory of the man’s touch. He was trembling as he remembered the sight of what Troy did to him-Shannon, her- years before.

When Loni touched him, Shan had flinched and almost pushed her away in muscle reaction. But he saw who it was and relaxed a bit. It felt good to have her wrap her arms around him. He could feel her face, her heart beat on his chest. Warm. And it was her. A beautiful star against the dark mass of the world

Shan wrapped his own arms around her and hugged her tightly, careful not to suffocate her. His body ached, but did not hurt as much as his heart.

“SORU” Troy disappeared and reappeared few feet away from the iron spear that now stuck onto the ground. He turned back to glower at the pirate.
