vibe: hotheaded and feral but down so bad for his girl.

physical type: intimidated by literally no one. he lowkey loves a short girl he can toss around, but bold girls? strong girls? a girl who looks like she knows exactly what she wants or can fight with words? he’s obsessed. he wants someone who walks into a room and knows her power.

personality type: sarcastic, bold, mouthy. he’s into the type who won’t put up with his temper, someone who throws it right back. he needs a girl with fire, but also someone who softens around him, just him. the contrast ruins him.

physical type: sam is drawn to subtle beauty, he notices things others overlook. the curve of your neck when your hair is tied up. the way your hands move when you’re focused. he’s not flashy or superficial; he’s mesmerized by grace.

personality type: calm, mature, deeply rooted. sam falls hard for the girl with quiet strength who speaks gently but never backs down when it counts. he needs someone who sees through the calm exterior to the storm underneath and stays anyway. bonus if she’s a little stubborn, it keeps him grounded.

why: because sam has spent years putting others first and protecting everyone else that he forgot what it feels like to be cared for without expectations. he needs someone who’s a safe place, a reminder that he’s allowed to be more than just “the alpha.”

leah clearwater

vibe: sharp-tongued, battle-scarred, untouchable. until she’s not.

physical type: leah’s always pretending she doesn’t care. but deep down? she melts for girls who wear too much eyeliner or none at all, who wear rings on every finger. there’s something magnetic about someone who carries herself with pride.

personality type: she loves someone calm. steady. soft-spoken. a girl who isn’t afraid of her sharp edges but doesn’t try to fix her either. someone who listens. someone who stays.

why: because leah has lost too much. she wants someone who chooses her. not despite her pain, but because of how she survived it.

Chapter 2

Link jumped forward with a yelp. Landing just past the hunter he doesn't stop. Dashing with a sword still lodged in his front right leg. It was right through but the bones kept it pinned. He managed to make it away from Rusl. Once he was clear he looked at his leg.

'How am I gonna get this out? It hurts... It hurts so bad.' He mentally screamed. Licking the blood that sluggishly oozed from the wound he wined. His head and heart hurt.

"He stabbed me... Rusl actually stabbed me." He cried. Flopping over in anguish Link howled as his tears started to fall. Once he started crying he couldn't stop. He cried for quite some time. Once he couldn't cry anymore he started to hyperventilate. Panic over his situation started to set in. He needed to remove the sword and get a move on. He couldn't stay here. Biting the hilt he tries to pull it free. It was too long and too well in there for him to pull out on his own. The attempt only caused more damage.

Yelping and whining he decides to leave it alone. He wouldn't be able to turn human with the sword through his leg like this. It was bad enough that a metal cuff hurt him every time he transformed he didn't need to worry about a sword as well.

Shakily standing he limped away as the sun began to set.

Shad was just about to leave the forest when he heard the howl. It sounded pained and that caught his curiosity. The scholar couldn't help but follow the whines and yelps. Coming to a clearing not far from Link's tree he sees a large black wolf on its side with a familiar sword through its leg. "Aw, poor thing. I wonder." He hums as he creeps closer to the creature. He made a mental note that this wolf was huge. He could probably ride it's back. Once he was close enough he saw how much distress the animal was in, which made his heart ache.

Digging through his bag he finds a cloth bandage. He sighs before muttering "I doubt it will let me close enough to help." He continued to approach.

Link knew someone was near but he was too hurt mentally to care. If it was Rusl he would run. Anyone else he will probably run as well. But he also knew he needed help. He started to pull himself back from his despair as the familiar scent of the scholar came through before his vision cleared.

He froze not making a sound as he watched Shad creep closer. 'Does he not know I can see him?' Tilting his head in thought.

Shad was just about 3 meters away when Link tensed. He saw a dagger on Shad's side.

"Hey, hey you alright boy. I'm not gonna hurt you." Shad says calmly holding his hands up.

Huffing Link makes a mental note that he should talk to Shad about his lack of caution with monsters and wild animals. 'If it wasn't me any other wolf would have torn this man to shreds.'

Hitching his breath Link backs up as another thought crosses his mind. 'I wonder what Hylian tastes like.' A little drool drips from his mouth. This makes him panic once again, realizing what the intrusive thought was made his stomach knot and he felt ill. 'I cannot hurt my friends!' He turns and flees in the bushes towards his house.

He doesn't make it far before his leg starts to throb. But Epona hears him and whinies. Hearing this Link howls back. Causing his horse to come to him.

"Link? You called?" She rushes over.

Link lays on the ground exhausted "..."

"Oh my. Let me help with that" The horse says softly as she walks up to him. She bites the hilt."This is going to hurt." She mumbles as she talks with the hilt in her mouth.

Link doesn't say anything but nods in understanding.

Epona pulls the sword out of his leg and drops it beside him.

Link yelps at this and groans afterwards. "I don't think I can turn back at the moment. Thank you though, Epona. I am going to find somewhere to lay down now, I've had a day" He limps toward the village.

"Just be careful Link." She whinnies.

Link makes his way towards the barn. He knew it was risky but he really just wanted to be warm and dry tonight. Sneaking in he finds himself amongst the goats. Some of them make comments about Link's injury or how it's not safe for him to be a wolf here and others say they just wanna sleep.

He ignores them and finds a spot in the hay to curl up in. Laying down he almost instantly passes out. He was tired. Some of the older goats that have known him the longest come and join him in the hay.

~~~ Rusl carried the gutted deer on his back as he followed the blood trail from the wolf. He finds Shad. "Hey, Shad. Have you seen a wolf?" he yells as he approaches the scholar.

"Yes, I am guessing that was your sword though it's leg? It headed that way. I don't think it's a threat." Shad says as he begins to walk back home.

"I am coming with you. The trail leads this way." Rusl sighs as he continues. They walk together quietly for a moment. "Has Link always been so standoffish with everyone?" Shad asks.

"No, before everything happened he was a big part of this community, like a family member to the entire town. I practically raised him and I hate to see my boy hurting. I just wish I could get him to talk about what's bothering him. He wasn't ready to be a hero and was rather naive to the world before this. The wolf's trail is getting too close to Link's house and the town for my liking."

"I understand. But I am not worried this wolf has been around since I got here. I have fed it a few times and it seems friendly enough I noticed it has a chain on its leg and a collar-like thing around its neck. I was hoping to see if I could befriend it because I believe it might have been someone's pet. Would explain why it's so tame and its proximity to the village." Shad theorized as he continued to walk.

They end up in Link's yard where Epona is resting. They find the sword just outside of Epona's stall. "I cannot believe the wolf was here and hadn't hurt the horse. I still do not like this." Rusl says as he sets the deer down, he picks the sword up and inspects it before putting it back into its sheath. "I hope you're right about it being tame. Since it appears to have walked into the village." After saying this Rusl takes off with his deer.

"Yeah, I hope so too," Shad says as he turns to pet the horse.

The ringing of your phone pulls your attention away from the book that you're reading. You gently put your book down and reach over for your phone. Paul, it says in bold letter. You answer his call and put the phone up to your ear. "What's up, Paulie?" you ask. You can hear Paul groan on the other side of the line at the nickname. "We're holding a dinner and bonfire night, wanna come?" Paul asks. A smile spreads on your face. "Emily's cooking, right?" you ask. Paul hums in agreement. Emily's cooking is phenomenal. You would be a fool to turn down her food. You jump up from your bed that you were sitting on. You walk over to your mirror and look at what you're wearing. Just jeans and a sweater. Good enough for a friendly dinner. "Than I'm coming for sure, give me like fifteen minutes," you say, "Alright, see you in a bit," Paul says before hanging up. You let out a happy squeal as you grab a pair of sneakers and quickly put them on. You haven't seen Paul in way too long. This dinner is just what you needed. And bonfires with him and his friends were always filled with spooky folklore and family stories. Something that you looked forward to every time. You write a quick note to your parents, saying that you were eating at Emily's place before grabbing your keys and heading out the door. Emily's house isn't far from your house. It's only a ten minutes walk if you go through the forest for a bit. You decide to take that route.

The walk over went by quick as you had a spring in your step. As you get closer to her house, you can already hear the loud voices of Paul's friends and smell the delicious scent of Emily's cooking. You jog the last couple of feet. The front door is already open when you arrive. It's left open most of the times anyways since Sam liked to go on random trips through the forest throughout the day. You walk into the living room and are greeted by the group. Emily runs over to you and pulls you in for a hug. "Hey, great to see you," you say as you wrap your arms around her. The sound of a timer going off in the kitchen alerts Emily. She excuses herself and runs off into the kitchen. Paul walks up to you from the backyard. "Paulie!" you yell which earns a laugh from Seth and Embry who quickly shut up when they see Paul's angry face.

A smile spreads over his lips again as he comes closer to you. "What have you been up to, big guy? Breaking stuff and walking around without a shirt?" you say as you mention towards his naked chest. Paul lets out a fake laugh. "Yeah, haha, very funny...No, I've actually broken a lot of stuff recently, no joke. It's not funny.. How have you been?" he asks. You nod as you sent him a smile. "Good, busy with school as always," you say. Paul places a hand on your shoulder and leads you to the table outside were the rest of the guests are sitting. You recognize some faces. Sam, Jacob and Quill. You wave at them and say hello.

Paul introduces you to the rest of the group. "This is Jared, and Billy," he says. You wave at both men. You remember Billy now. He's Jacob's dad. "And this is Leah," Paul says as he mentions to the only girl at the table. "Don't mind her. She's permanently grumpy.". The girl looks up at you and you can feel a weird wave of emotions wash over you. The girl's eyes grow big as she stares at you. Paul gets a confused look on his face before his jaw drop. Jacob has the same look on his face. The girl stumbles out of her seat and goes to shake your hand.

"I'm-I'm Nice. It's Leah to meet you," she stutters. She quickly shakes her head. "I mean. I'm Leah. Yeah, I'm Leah. And you're pretty. I mean, you're Y/n!". You laugh a little at her awkwardness as you nod and continue to shake her hand.

"Yeah, that's my name," you say. You look down at your hands. This handshake has been going on for way too long. Leah notices your discomfort and quickly lets go of your hand before muttering out an apology. Jacob lets out a laugh. "Did she just imprint?" he asks Paul who nods in response. Confused, you look up at Paul. "Imprint? What the fuck is that?" you ask. Leah continues to stare at you as you can clearly see her inner conflict in her eyes. Paul simply shrugs at you. "It's like love at first sight," he says. Your cheeks warm-up at the mention of it. Did Leah just fall for you? Someone like Leah fell for someone like you? You didn't believe it.

Leah points at the place she was sitting at before. "Wanna sit down?" she asks. You nod at her. She tells Jacob to move over. Instead, he stands up and drags Paul with him to go back inside. He isn't feeling like being around for your lovey-dovey stuff. You sit down next to Leah. Your knees are resting against each other. You're really close to each other, considering space you have to sit at but you don't mind. You like her company, for some reason. "So you fell for me?" you ask with a smirk. She nods slowly.

"I guess. I imprinted on you," she says. You tilt your head slightly. "Yeah, what's imprinting?" you ask. Leah lets out a sigh as she turns her body so she is now fully facing you. "Alright, this is a long story," she begins. "You know those stories we tell at the bonfire?". You nod at her. You loved those stories. Stories about warriors and their amazing family history. You always felt special that they wanted to share that with you. "Well, they might be true.".

PSA: The point of this story is not that the reader has value as a woman because of Paul’s attention. Everyone has value. Period. Size, shape, orientation, identification, race, religion, etc are all things that make us who we are but do not define our value as a human being. You don’t need a significant other to believe you have value before you suddenly have value. The point is, sometimes we as humans struggle to see the truth already in front of our own eyes. Our loved ones are there to remind us that no matter what the voices in your head say, you are perfect just the way you are.

Continuation Two: Dusk

“Ugh!” you grunted, your hand slipping from your waistband as you tried desperately to shimmy into a too-tight pair of shorts from last summer. The jean material would barely fit over your hips, shockingly snug despite the fact you were sure you hadn’t gained that much weight over the last year. You tugged one last time, only to hear the material rip. “Damn it!” Sighing, you slid the shorts down your legs and pulled them free, falling back onto the bed in defeat. It hadn’t been that long since you’d been able to fit into those shorts easily, and the size was already on the larger side in your mind. How could you possibly have gained so much weight in such a short time?

Nothing would fit you beside your largest pair of athletic shorts and even those were snug; you took a deep breath to hold back tears and failed. For years your ex had ridiculed you over your size until you obsessed over every calorie, every crumb on your plate. You’d prided yourself on dropping sizes every few months, until you’d gotten to your ‘goal size’. It was an incredibly unhealthy point in your life, both mentally and physically, but if it was possible for you to make your ex happy in some small way it meant one less way he could hurt you. Now it was a hard to break habit to value your appearance by the number on the tag, a habit you’d thought you’d dropped until now. Hot tears slipped down your cheeks and dripped into your hair, sticking it to your face.

Your phone buzzed beside your head, despairingly you smacked the covers until you found it.

You groaned, smacking your forehead lightly. The first bonfire of the summer with the entire pack celebrating the official start to the season was this evening; the weather was supposed to be warmer than it had been in the last few months so you’d pulled out your summer wardrobe in the hopes that everything still fit. This was the last pair of shorts you tried on and everything else was similarly too small… your heart sunk. You wanted to wear something cute to the bonfire, but nothing seemed to fit. 

It normally wouldn’t be such a big deal, but Emily and Kim were both small and athletic and always wore clothes that highlighted their form. Quil’s new imprint Hannah was tall and slim, with a river of striking black hair and a fondness for crop tops and short shorts that showed off her endless legs. It felt like every other female you knew was fit and perfect--besides you. You knew it wasn’t a good idea to compare yourself to others but it was hard when you were constantly surrounded by supernaturally attractive men and their similarly attractive significant others. Why couldn’t you be slim and perfect too? You felt like a chubby little frog next to them… 

“Babe, I’m home!” Paul called from the kitchen, the front screen door slapping shut behind him. Hastily you sat up and swiped at the embarrassing tears dripping down your cheeks but it was too late. “Honey, what’s wrong?” Paul was at your side in an instant, his warm hand sweeping your hair over your shoulder and resting against your neck.

“Nothing, it’s fine,” you muttered, turning your face away. “My dumb shorts don’t fit.”

“Oh,” you heard the frown in his voice and he picked up the offending garment from the floor. “These ones? Well baby, these are tiny! No wonder they don’t fit, they’re practically a children’s size.”

“But I used to fit in them just last summer!” you cried, turning to him and grabbing the shorts. “How did I get so fat??” You thrust yourself up from the bed and went to stand in front of the full length mirror. “I used to be so tiny, I never had a problem fitting into anything. Now I’m just a chunky little gremlin…”

“I’m sorry, what?” Paul asked incredulously, coming up behind you and yanking the shorts from your hands and chucking them forcefully into the corner of the bedroom. He slid his hands under your shirt and wrapped them around your waist. “Honey, no. For one, you’re tiny still, especially compared to me,” he chuckled and gently kissed your neck. “And secondly, who the fuck cares? We’ll  buy new shorts.”

“It’s not that, I should be able to fit into them still! How could I have let myself gain so much weight?!” you sniffed again, glaring at your shape in the mirror and seeing every slice of pizza, every spoonful of ice cream, every piece of bread…

“Seriously? You’re not overweight!” he retorted, his dark eyebrows pushing together.

“Compared to Kim, and Hannah, and, and, and everyone else I am!” you sobbed, trying to pull away from him to hide your shame.

Angrily he spun you around and cupped your cheeks to look into your eyes. His hands trembled slightly, the only betrayal of his weakened control. “Y/N. You are NOT overweight. You are HEALTHY. You’ve gained weight because when I met you, all you had in your fridge was a bag of salad and a carton of eggs. Do you know how happy I am to see you fill out? Do you know how much it made me nervous that you would forget to eat for a day? I look at you and I see someone who is happy and healthy now. Every inch of you is perfect.”

Startled at the raw emotion in his voice, you hiccuped. Paul’s eyes were serious and dark in above his russet cheekbones, but not without love. Tenderly he wiped away tears with his thumbs. “I love you for better or for worse, no matter what you look like, no matter how much you weigh or what size you are, no matter what you do with your hair or if you wear makeup or not, or if you wear nice clothes or sweats,” he whispered, pressing his lips to yours in the barest imitation of a kiss. He pulled away and smirked suddenly. “But luckily, you’re exactly my type, and I think you’re hot as fuck.”

You giggled at that, leaning into his touch. “So you don’t think I’m fat?”

Paul rolled his eyes and pressed his face into your neck, nipping delicately at the sensitive skin there. “No, you’re delectable,” he growled, pulling the two of you back onto the bed with you on top and slipping his hands under the ragged t shirt you wore to caress your back. “And tempting,” he kissed your collarbone. “And perfect,” he pressed his lips to the hollow of your throat. Planting hot kisses across your skin, he began to lift your shirt, his eagerness abruptly making itself known against your stomach.

“Thank you,” you whispered shyly, ducking your head against his shoulder. 

He growled softly and paused in his attempts to undress you. “For what?”

“For helping me remember my value, even when I struggle with it. I… haven’t always been good at remembering that my size shouldn’t matter.”

“I know, sweetheart,” he smoothed the hair over the back of your head. 

“What do you mean, ‘you know’?” you leaned back and frowned.

“Honey, I’ve seen photos of you from the time that you were with your ex, and you’ve mentioned he’d abused you. It’s not hard to make the leap,” he pushed himself up on his elbows and swallowed a shudder. “I swear to everything that is holy, if I see that fuckwad ever again I will rip his fucking teeth out one by one and make him eat them like candy.”

“Okay, well we’re not going to let that happen, for legal reasons,” you laughed and smacked his chest.

“Mm, well, you better hope he doesn’t show up again because I can’t make any promises,” Paul shrugged unremorsefully, but calmed enough to stroke his fingers down your bare thighs straddling his waist. “All I can do for now is make sure you know how loved you are, how smart and funny and strong you are, and remind you that I love every piece and part of you just the way you are.”

Your heart squeezed in your chest, suddenly overfull of adoration for this fierce, wise cracking, temper-losing, enormous giant of a man who had a tenderness to him that belied everything his friends and family knew about him. Looking down at him, all you saw was the love in his eyes, the truth in everything he said. Paul had fought hard and earned every bit of the trust you placed in him, trust you had always had difficulty in placing in another person. While you believed in the imprinting mechanics having seen it first hand, it had taken you months to trust Paul in spite of your supernatural bond. Now, for the first time, you felt yourself truly letting your guard down, having shared your last and most shameful weakness. And he loved you, despite that. “I love you so much,” you smiled shyly and bent to kiss him lightly.
