The thoughts echoed through your head as you stare down at the blue eyed boy underneath you. With your foot on his chest and loaded barrel pointed to his temple, a deadly glare adorned your face. Your eyes lighten as you feel yourself give up.
You sigh as you drop your arms to your side. You remove your foot and hold your hand out for him to grab. You help him up and look at him.
"Thank you." he says. You draw your gun and hold it to the back of his head.
"Osterfield, why'd you follow me?" you ask.
"I needed to see if you were okay." he says. You punch him, causing him to fall back. You rest your foot in his chest and back to square one you go.
Your father's words ring in your head.
Came into this world, daddy's little girl
And daddy made a soldier out of me
Since you were small, you always had a complicated relationship with your dad. Ever since birth, up until he died. Even after the world went to shit, your relationship was complicated. He adored you, absolutely and utterly cherished you. He just never knew how to show it. Always saying the wrong things, always being so tough on you. As a kid, you convinced yourself it was just tough love. He never laid a hand on you, but he shaped you up to build up walls.
And daddy made me dance and daddy held my hand
And daddy liked his whiskey with his tea
He was never a man of showing compassion or love, and maybe that's why he was never able to stay faithful to mother. Mother only stayed because she was conditioned, even long before meeting dad, that this would be the best in her life. When you were born, he treated you like the world, never let anything bad happen. But as he aged, whiskey became his best friend.
He said, "Take care of your mother
Watch out for your sister"
That's when daddy looked at me..
"Daddy, please speak to me." you cry.
"Stay strong, buttercup. I need you to stay strong for momma and for your sister. They need you." he says as his breath goes raggedy.
"No. You can't go. No!" you yell.
"I'm sorry. I know I was never the best. To you or mom. Maybe this is the universe saying I don't deserve to be here." he says.
"I don't got much time, baby." he says. You take in his weary sitting form. He still managed to hold his head up.
With his gun and his head held high, he told me not to cry
"Don't cry for me, baby." he says. You nod as tears continue to fall down your face.
"Just one more favor?" he asks. You nod.
"Shoot. No questions, if it feels wrong, shoot." he says. You nod.
"Now, shoot." he says. You shake your head as you hold the barrel to his head. With a loud bang, and the splatter of his blood on you, the wails of your mother and you sister begin like clockwork.
You step out of the room in the cabin where your father's dead body lay. You stare at your mother and sister, their eyes going to the blood staining your clothes and face. You can almost taste the iron.
"Let's go." you said, leading the way.
My daddy warned me about men like you
Before he died, your dad told you never to fall for the boy that fakes his kindness. You never really understood until now. He told you never to fall for the boy who looks at another woman for longer than he looks at you. Maybe you should've picked up on how he stared as Mrs. Henkleman for much longer than he looked at mom.
You think of how Harrison stared at Anne every time she walked past, ignoring every syllable you've uttered in her presence. You think of how everybody favored her over you. It made Alexandria harder. You were pinned against one of the only other girls you could relate to.
He said, "Baby girl, he's playing you, he's playing you
Cause when trouble comes in town and men like me come around"
You sigh as you look down at Harrison. You move once more but leave him there as you walk opposite of Alexandria. He's quick to get up and chase after you.
"Y/n. Wait!" he says. You ignore him and keep walking.
"Y/n!" he repeats. Nothing.
"Y/n listen to me!" he says. He puts a hand on your arm and you immediately tear your arm from his hand.
"Don't touch me! Go back home!" you yell. He shakes his head.
"What's gotten into you?"
"Whats gotten into everybody back there? What's gotten into you? Rick or Carl? Anne? Go home, Haz."
"Not if you don't come back with me." he says. You shake your head.
"Go back home or God help me, I swear I will attract a horde to push you back. Don't test me." you threaten.
"Y/n talk to me." he says. You hold your gun up and shoot.
"Go." you say. He doesn't move.
"Not until you tell me what's wrong." he says. You sigh.
"You're fucking Anne. You know, I should've killed you. Before daddy died, he warned me about guys like you. Saying careful around men like him. The lying cheating type. Even if I wanted to go back to Alexandria, I wouldn't be allowed back. Rick kicked me out. Not enough of an asset and I weigh things down. So fuck the loner, right? Fuck the girl who doesn't matter to anyone. You're all full of shit. Daddy might've said to survive in anyway possible, but screw what daddy said. He was an obnoxious, good for nothing, abusive drunk. Didn't know what he was talking about. Only good advice he gave me was to shoot and even then, I can't listen. So go home, before I do shoot you." you say. He frowns and shakes his head. He steps forward and you shoot off to the side.
"Where will you go?" he asks.
"I don't know, but I don't care. I'll figure it out." you say. He shakes his head again.
"Come back. Please." he pleads.
You aim at him and he shakes his head. He sighs and turns around, walking back towards Alexandria. You turn around and start walking.
"Osterfield?" you call. He hums in response.
