Working theory for Hallucinicki writing Marius on the mirror in blood:
The flashback in episode three isn’t what actually happened and Lestat, indeed, was not there when Nicki died. He leaves Paris to go find Marius just as he does in the book, leaving Nicki behind to suffer. The guilt obviously still haunts him, thus Nicki writing Marius on the mirror as a (very in character) spiteful reminder.
This being said, Lestat’s monologue he told to Daniel about telling Nicki he loved him was simply the words he wished he could say but was never able to. Ouch </3
