Grand Riviere, on Trinidad’s northeast coast, is a narrow strip of breathtaking Caribean shoreline backed by gorgeous mountainous emerald jungle that tumbles to the broad sea. Almost as soon as the sun goes down, a combination of algae bloom of plankton, the unique wave breaking and the bright night sky make the Atlantic ocean bioluminescent. . At the same time many leatherback turtles surface the water in order to spend the night laying their eggs. The next morning they will return to the ocean accompanied by their adorable hatchlings. . This amazing spot has so many nesting leatherback turtles that it’s probably the world’s densest nesting beach for the world’s largest sea turtle.
