#ttmTaiwan2017: The main altar in #XuanGuangTemple (#玄光寺) - dedicated to #Buddhist monk #XuanZang (#玄奘), who went to India to bring back Buddhist scriptures to China. His pilgrimage is fictionalised in the Chinese classic - "#JourneyToTheWest" (#西游记), and his relic were housed in this temple for 10 years from 1955 to 1965, when it was moved to #XuanZangTemple (#玄奘寺) further up the mountain. Xuan Guang Temple also lends its name to the pier beside it. The temple houses the relics of #XuanZang - the buddhist monk upon which the Chinese classic, #JourneyToTheWest (#西游记), was based. Born in 600, his relics were brought from Nanjing to Japan by the Japanese army during World War II, and returned to Taiwan in 1955. #ttmTaiwan2017: Sleepy #hippos at #Taipei public #Zoo. It was a wonderfully sunny afternoon in Winter when we visited the zoo last week. These hippos were just heaped upon each other! The #TaipeiZoo is supposedly the largest zoo in Asia. Run by the Taipei City government, it charges only NT$60 for adults, NT$30 for under-18s & students, and is free for preschool, handicapped, or ARC. #ttmTaiwan2017: #Miyahara in #Taichung #Taiwan was originally an eye hospital built by a Japanese doctor. Today, it sells local #pastries, ice cream , tea and coffee and is a popular #tourist attraction. It is such an amazing example of packaging. Even the ribbons are so beautiful.
