In POF, Roman got led up to believing that maybe he'd actually get listened to for once, Patton and Thomas saying multiple times that they'd like to hear what Roman thinks and Patton even apologizing when he accidentily made Roman think that his opinion on something wasn't wanted. And then at the end of the episode all his hopes were mercilessly crushed by Janus comparing him to Remus and Patton and Thomas not defending him. At the end of POF, he believes that nobody cares about him.
But in FWSA, after trying desperately to get Thomas to talk to Nico, Roman ended up giving up on his big desire, again, and Virgil decided to go for it and push Thomas to talk to him anyway because Roman was upset. Virgil actually going for it, giving in and doing something for Roman because he was sad, proves to Roman that Virgil actually cares about him. And he does! Virgil does care about him, and it makes Roman much more comfortable when talking with and about him. (See how Roman looks really sad and down when mentioning how he thinks he's gotten to know Patton and Logan better since the start of the series, but absolutly lights up when he mentions how he's gotten to know Virgil better.)
Virgil is the only side Roman currently thinks actually cares about him, and in this essay I will-
