Why Emma/Scott tho? I mean I think it's a good story, I do believe Emma loves him, but isn't it doomed to be a tragedy, of some kind? Granted I *like* Emma/Jean because it is also *great* angst/hate-fic. Is a similar thing going on here?
Let me preface this by saying that scemma is one of my m/f OTPS, especially among Marvel characters.
Setting aside a few stupid writing decisions that are horrifically out of character (I could rant about how scottĀ āthey should rename the xanatos gambit trope after himā summers was written to have his revolution putter out and how his actions at the end of all that were grossly out of character). Theyāre generally written with a healthy dynamic. They respect each other. Theyāre equals. Theyāre every bit as intelligent and strong willed as the other. They generally trust each other.
They just compliment each other so well. Scott isnāt the idealistic youth he once was. The world has burned him, has shown him the very worst and he was forced to become a general just to keep his people alive. But thereās still that part of him that never let go of the idealism, and that balances Emmaās realism. I think she has her own ideals she strives for too. Sheās a better person than she believes she is.
I like Scott/Jean, but their relationship was the kind of.. high school romance that turns into a marriage and is maybe a little too perfect, all the problems and flaws hidden under the surface only to crack much too late to change course. Emma and Scott are like that couple that meets years later. Theyāve both grown from their youth and they have their own demons. The cracks are there, exposed, and they both know it and can deal with it. Itās a more adult relationship, a more mature one. Scott and Jean have moved past each other. I could see Jean returning and her and Scott being friends, but their romance is dead.
Plus Scott and Emma literally had an entire comic about sharing all their secrets and bad deeds and dreams with each other and it only made their relationship stronger. They also call each other out on their bullshit, which Iāve always thought was important.
As for Jean, she deserves to make her own way without being defined by the men in her life, which I think sheās been relegated to for a long time now.
