One of the queerphobic laws in modern russia:
LGBT propoganda for minors (I use that word and not queer or LGBTQ+ or something else because its what it was talked about as): this law was passed for the whole country in 2014, but also before 2014 it was already implemented in some regions of the country, kinda how in united states a law can only exist in some states but not the whole country.
This law was relatively easy to avoid by plastering an 18+ sign on anything and everything queer. Sounds easy enough, yeah? Well, yes, BUT it robbed every queer kid and/or teen of belonging in the queer community for years to come. of course you could still talk to your peers and there were unofficial queer spaces for minors, even some very prominent ones like ΠΠ΅ΡΠΈ-404. But ive been that queer kid in russia. it was honestly one of the most isolating and lonely experiences i had. every place that clames to be queer friendly, that clames to BE queer is completely closed to you. as if you don't exist. as if you don't matter.
also queer youth is SUCH a vulnerable group of people - and only imagine how fucking many gay and trans kids in russia are harassed, bullied, abused and assaulted in all kind of ways, getting kicked out of their homes, sent to torturous conversion therapy camps and even killed. and it's PROHIBITED to address that, let alone organize any kind of action to combat that.
and as a queer minor in russia you very quickly realize that you can't even really be angry at all the queer organizations for not including you! because it's all for their safety, its done only so all the other queer people (adults) CAN actually go to events, receive help, read books, see themselves represented, get sexual education, and so so so much more. and if you as a teen lie and get into a queer space like that - you endanger everyone else, especially the organizers. so you are left alone to fend for yourself.
cooking up a post about they/them in russian language and other gendered language stuff. it will take quite some time, so i really hope you all will like it and find it useful!
