Sounds like something normal, right?

But in my last relationship, going somewhere alone or even with friends was met with skepticism. An argument, a you can’t go.

Before I went I asked my bf, would he be upset if I went alone.. I used to go to the movies alone a lot when my last relationship ended. It was kind of a way to get back to myself, but still I asked..

And when I was in the theatre, I still kinda felt guilty about going. It took me a minute to get comfortable with the fact that the person who was at home waiting for me was okay with me being here by myself.

That he’s okay with me existing outside of him, my individuality inside of our duality is okay..

Trauma never really leaves you, does it? Some days I’m still in that relationship (in my head). It’s like I lay up with the ghost of that relationship while tryna thrive inside one that’s good for me.

When we say we’re strong, are we certain of the extent? Do we say the word strong with conviction? I’m asking because we as a people are strong. At least where I come from and the people I’ve known. They’ve survived some crazy things and seemingly took it in stride. I don’t know if they’ve buried or applied but I know you can feel it on them. I’ve looked at people and consider their stories while admiring how well they wear it. I, like so many, strive to not look like what i’ve been through. How much strength does it take to swallow betrayal from the someone you love? and go back for another round until you’v exhausted yourself?* How strong do you have to be to sever ties with someone you love and will always miss? The scenarios are endless.
