how do i teach birb how to give kisses?
I’ve got another request in here for a video tutorial of the exact same thing so I’ll be making one eventually it’s just college and exams and papers and general lack of energy has made it impossible to get much of anything done recently. A video detailing the process will exist eventually, I promise...
In short point form the basics are:
1) make sure bird is comfortable being near your face, make sure your lips are dry
2) there’s a few ways to go about this and which you choose is dependent on your bird’s behaviour.
option 1) just lean over and lightly tap/ point to your lip with your finger or a target stick, click and reward whenever they move their faces towards your lips, extra if they touch your lips, gradually phase out your hand so you only have to tap it once to get the reaction, then phase it out to just your face leaning forwards or a vocal cue
option 2) if your bird tends to get over excited or food aggressive don’t do this one. Balance a single seed on your lip or gently hold a millet circle so the bird stretches out to eat it, gradually phase out so there’s less and less seeds there. Transfer the seed to your hand so you start holding it in front. touching your lips, when they reach for it start to slide the treat across your cheek so that as they reach they end up contacting the lips, give them the reward as soon as contact happens/ if it’s close. Gradually phase out the treat in your hand until it is no longer visible then phase it out so it’s just the presentation of your face leaning or a verbal cue that signals the behaviour
I have a question about training. I am not sure if there is a way to encourage Luna to let her foot go when doing lying on her back on my hand but she has been trying but in a second, she panics on her own and flips back upwards. She seems she really wants to let go but is afraid to on her own. We are slowly doing the same with her playing dead and I'm really hoping there is a way to help her in our training together.
Typically this is just something that comes with time and comfort, it can take a while for them to get used to being on their backs so it can just be a matter of plenty of repetitions and positive reinforcement. Other factors may be where they’re being held, if they’re over close to a table they’ll be more comfortable than hanging 5 feet off the floor which may help them feel more confident in letting go, another thing you can do is gently hold the sides of her body by slightly closing the hand she lays in, that would support her more and may help her feel safe enough to let go. Otherwise it’s best to give it time, once they’re totally relaxed you can try gently touching the toes and softly sliding them off but if they resist just leave them be and gradually work at their comfort level. If there comes a time where she accidentally lets go or loosens her grip give her plenty of rewards so she may repeat the behaviour. If the behaviour is really persistent you could train her to let go on cue, teach her to shake and have a cue for her to let go of your finger and apply that to this laying trick.

Is it possible to target train a tiel to let me lift his wings for harness training? He doesn't really like me touching or lifting his wings, when I do he tries to pull away or act like he wants to bite.
It’s not considered target training but yes, you can teach a bird to allow physical manipulation.
To do that you need to have a really good understanding of their body language as things can very easily go sour resulting in a bird who refuses to train or lunges at the presentation of your hands.
You need to take it incredibly slow, start with your hands quite a ways away from the bird (hands pointing ‘guns’ at the bird), click and reward every time you present your hands that way, slowly working your way closer to their body ensuring not to progress until they are fully comfortable with the step you’re on. From there you lightly touch their sides, the edges of their wings, under the wings, and gently pushing up on the wings, a bird who is comfortable will present no resistance to the wings being lifted up. For training the bird to have the wings lifted in to the harness you would then accustom the bird to you using more fingers on the wings, opening and closing the wings partially, until you can work on manipulation inside the harness.
Always, always, always pay attention to their body language, if they’re resisting you pushing their wings, walking away, tipping their heads down, lunging or shying away you need to stop and back up a few steps until they are comfortable enough to allow you to move forwards.

Zeeby knows more simply because she learns at a faster pace and some of the concepts Zeeby knows I know Mia wouldn’t be super comfortable doing, Mia’s currently learning to ride a skateboard! They also know behaviour based things like screaming at designated times, appropriate places to poop, contact calling and medical things like physical exams, towelling, nail trimming and all that good stuff!
I think there’s more that I may have taught last year for presentations but I haven’t asked them to do those in so long I’d be surprised if they actually remember them.
