1580, Owari.

It was early morning , the oda army was departing for the front. Everytime I saw him leaving, i was always praying that he will come back at me victorious. Not that I ever doubted him. There was always a fire in his eyes. Some may say that this fire was destructive but there was a fury for a change in it.

….“You , wait for me.” ….. ……“Don’t make that face, foolish woman.”…. ……….“I will come back victorious”……

I could hear those who stayed behind mumbling all those awful things about him. I am sure he was well aware about it but men like him suffer their pain silently.

After several weeks, he returned. He was unharmed but the army went through a great loss. Many fighters lost their lives during this fight. I could feel how resentful he was. The air was getting thicker and thicker as days went by. I knew him well, at situations like that one, he needed time alone.

Each time i was passing by his chambers I could hear him fighting over and over again with his retainers about the war. All of them were worried about the hundreds that had fallen during the fights. But what he was worried about was the millions that were lost during the war, all the samurai , all the men, women and children. A warrior is worthless unless he rises above others and stands strong in the midst of a storm. Of course offering his men’s lives to the old man dressed all in black wasn’t pleasing for him either.

One day, Ranmaru entered his chambers with some really important information. “What is it Ranmaru?” he told him still unpleased with the whole situation. “The enemy has camped to the shrine up at the hill. What will your next move be milord?” “Call the war council now.” He ordered. I haven’t spoken to him for days, but by the tone of his voice I could hear that he was determined to make things right, in his way.

“Burn them all down”

A chilling order it may be, but once a person has reached enlightenment in one thing, he will have an enlightened mind and understand many things. A merciless lord? Maybe he appears to be. But who knew that what he desired the most was a world of peace. He had realized that he was the only one that could unify this country.

And so he did.

1582, Owari.

What is hard being in love with a samurai is that his life is not so important when forced to choose between life and integrity. The most important thing in his heart is to desire with his very soul every second of every day to accomplish his aim. I knew that me and my lord will not see each other to an old age, but that was the cost in order for everyone to live longer in a better world.

There was little left for all territories to be under his command. The last months i was watching closely his every move. Finally he could see his dream coming true.

June 21st , Kyoto.

Everyone was cheering for the Oda army leaving for their last fight. There was a small territory still resisting and this day it would be the end of it. I watched him leaving the camp  as any other time, but this time the man I was seeing off to war wasn’t just my lover , he was Japan’s one and only Lord. Everyone knew that after this fight the wars will be over and Oda will rule. That’s what I thought too…

Of course the Oda won, as expected.. But their leader couldn’t lead anymore. After all those fights, after all those victories, Death choose to finally take away my savior.
