Vietti Barbera d’Asti Tre Vigne 2016 is 100% Barbera & the grapes are selected from vineyards in Agliano Terme. The grapes are cold macerated in stainless steel then fermented for 3 weeks, racked & moved to Barriques, big oak barrels & steel tanks for 18 months for malolactic. Purple in color, ripe red cherry aromas & sweet spices. A dry, medium-bodied red with refreshing acidity, the Tre Vigne is well balanced with good integration of oak, complex with a long finish of red cherries. Barbera typically has flavors of red cherry, raspberry, blackberry & bright acidity. The history of the Vietti winery traces its roots back to the 19th Century. Patriarch Mario Vietti, made the first Vietti wines in 1919. In 1952, Alfredo Currado (Luciana Vietti’s husband) continued to produce high quality wines. The Vietti winery grew to one of the top producers in Piemonte & was one of the 1st wineries to export to the USA. Alfredo was one of the first to select and vinify grapes from single vineyards (such as Brunate, Rocche & Villero). This was radical at the time, but today almost every winemaker in Barolo & Barbaresco has "single vineyard" or "cru" wines. Alfredo is called the "father of Arneis", in 1967 he rediscovered the nearly-lost variety. Today Arneis is the most famous white wine from the Roero north of Barolo.
