And now part 2 of my ARNYCA POST - I met my good friend Steve Distler from ARNYCA a number of years ago in NYC at Otto Enoteca and Pizzeria in Greenwich Village. He was a regular there, as was I and we would hang out with our mutual friend and wine director at the time, Peter Jamros exploring Italian wines. We would attend wine tastings and would learn about great Italian wines while eating pizza, pasta and antipasti. Later, we worked together at Italian Wine Merchants where Steve was a portfolio manger and I was a part-time weekend sales clerk. Over time we have become and stayed friends. I got to visit his wine bar in Napa and we have stayed in touch although we are on opposite coasts. As you may know, I am a big fan of Cabernet Franc and ARNYCA’s Cab Franc is delicious and so is their Rose. Steve recently sent me two bottles of their new project, their 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon. They only made 75 cases of the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon. The Cabernet is a big, rich and juicy wine at 15.2% alcohol. It has tons of dark fruit with the tell tale notes of mint and Eucalyptus and some Napa “dust” which is always present in excellent Napa Cabernets. The wine is well balanced but needs time in the bottle to really shine. ARNYCA focuses on three limited production wines – a rosé made from Pinot Noir from the Russian River, a Cabernet Franc a d the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon. Their total production each year is only about 300 cases; their first Cabernet Franc was from the 2013 vintage, the first rosé from the 2015 vintage and the first Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2016 vintage. ARNYCA is the story of 2 friends from different worlds with a shared passion for wine. Luis Pettinato from Argentina & Steve Distler from NYC that share a love for Cabernet Franc, an underrated & under appreciated grape. ARNYCA Cellars produces 150 cases of Cab Franc as well as Rose and Cabernet Sauvignon. ARNYCA is derived from Luis and Steve’s homes in Argentina and NY and home of their wine in CA. The logo, a tribute to Steve’s parents both of whom are deaf, represents the American Sign Language fingerspelling for ARNYCA. Steve Distler, Co-Owner/Partner, born in Queens, NY, grew up with sign language as his first language. After graduating college, he dreamed of being a stockbroker. Soon his passion led him back to school for a Master’s in Education and a teaching job at The American Sign Language and English Secondary School. Restless and searching he left teaching and joined Italian Wine Merchants in NYC. In 2007, he moved to Napa, CA and opened a wine bar in 2010. Soon after he became the GM at O’Brien Estate and in 2015, he started ARNYCA and founded Wine Language, LLC. Luis Pettinato is Co-Owner/Partner, and a native of Argentina. Luis began his career at Le Cordon Blue, Buenos Aires. For 15 years, Luis worked in kitchen management with prestigious stints in LA and Napa. 10 years ago he decided to pursue his passion for wine and partnered with Steve to create ARNYCA.   Steve and Luis joined forces with Mark Davis, Winemaker. Mark worked many vintages across Northern CA, Australia, & South Africa. He started his own label Cobden Wini Wine in 2012.
